Have you ever had one of those mornings where the universe seems to align perfectly, offering you a glimpse of something spectacular just as you least expect it? Well, last Wednesday, I had one of those moments.
It was an ungodly hour, the kind where most sane people are still cocooned in their beds, clinging to the last remnants of sleep. But not me. I was already on the road, trudging to the office, when I noticed something magnificent brewing on the horizon — a sunrise that would put even the most seasoned Instagram influencer to shame.
The sky was a canvas of contrasts. On one side, the sun was just peeking over the horizon, splashing a riot of colors across the clouds, while on the other side, ominous storm clouds loomed, promising a downpour and, to my delight, a faint rainbow arching gracefully through them. It was one of those rare sights that makes you question if you’re still dreaming.
Now, here's where the universe decided to test me. By the time I found a spot to pull over, parked the car, and grabbed my trusty DJI Mini 3 Pro drone (because, let's be honest, I always carry it around—who doesn't these days?), the scene had shifted. Just three minutes. That's all it took for those dramatic clouds to swallow up most of the sky, turning the brilliant sunrise into a fleeting memory.
But I wasn’t going to let it all slip away without a fight. I launched the drone into the sky, fingers crossed, hoping to capture whatever was left of the moment. And I did. Just in time to snap the last glimpse of the sun before it disappeared behind a thick wall of clouds, as if playing a cruel game of hide-and-seek with me. Four photos was all that i could capture.
And the resulting photos were different from what I had initially envisioned, but they carried a mood all their own—a peaceful stillness, tinged with the soft glow of a disappearing sun and the promise of a storm to come. It’s a reminder that sometimes, even when things don’t go according to plan, the outcome can still be pretty damn beautiful.
This experience is just another reason why I love photography, especially with a drone. It’s the thrill of the chase, the race against time, and the satisfaction of capturing a moment that would otherwise be lost forever. So, here’s to the almost-missed moments and the unexpected beauty they bring. And to always being ready with a drone, just in case.
Just saying, if you're ever caught between a sunrise and a storm, make sure you're ready to capture whatever magic the sky decides to throw your way—before it vanishes into the clouds, just like that.
