I finally finished my first big bando bashing quad! I have been working on this drone off and on for a bit and really excited to have it finally ready for the skies! The hold up originally was the video transmitter. During the initial build, I had purchased a new analog one from my buddy and we tried to put it in, but could never get power to the VTX. I tried different things over time like ordering a new plug and cables, but still nothing.
So I decided to go ahead and cough up the $180 for the DJI O3 Air Unit since I just purchased the DJI Goggles V2 with my new FPV camera drone. We got the new video unit and camera in and one issue with the size of the camera didn't fit the 3D print we did for the analog camera. Well, it did fit, technically, but there were green bars down the sides of the image, and I can't have that. But we got it in at my buddy's house and it worked! That was the biggest thing!
So I came home and loaded up the Bambu Lab A1 with my green TPU 3D printing filament, went to Thingiverse.com and found what I needed, and wham, new camera mount! But I couldn't just stop there, lol. I wanted some extra protection so I also printed up a GoPro mount to put on top, even though I don't have a GoPro camera to mount. I did this to give the top a bit more of a bumper in case I run into something, like a wall or the ground, lol.
But it just looked naked, lol. So I went back to Thingiverse and pulled the other side of the mount and found this really cool 'Joker' piece from the Batman animated series. I figured I already had the color scheme going, so why not!
The original design came on a stand, so I went to Tinkercad and did some editing. I scaled it down to fit on top of the GoPro mount, made a new back piece, and saved the STL file. It came out perfect! Once I got it printed out, I got it mounted to the drone, and well, it just looks cool as hell in my opinion! The Joker was always my favorite super villain , so it just fit!
So now, the Clown Prince of Crime will be taking the blunt of any crashes, thus doing his job and protecting the camera, and as it sits, protecting the battery that will be on top as well! It's 100% infill, so it's a solid piece of TPU!
I can't wait to get this thing in the air and ripping up the skies! FPV drone flying has become like therapy for me, especially while I am dealing with my Dad being sick. It gives me a way to get out of my own head and look at the world from a bird's eye view, moving much faster though, lol.
I have some SD cards on order to put in all my drones and goggles so I'll be getting some recordings up soon!
Until then...
Be Cool, Be Real, and always Abide!
