As a Nerd and super-introvert, I am easily absorbed by book fairs, hour after hour. I recently came across my son's school's ongoing food fair.
And guess what? The person who usually avoids spending extra minutes in school spending hours reading and browsing books. Another secret is, that I loved seeing the kids and teens enthusiastic about books, like what they were browsing and buying.
Let me give you a glimpse.
The fair was running for a week. The moment I learned this, I didn't miss my chance to visit there every day and read something for free!!
Well, I bought some as well. So it's not a problem, right?
There were different sections for kids' books, art/coloring books, comic books, storybooks, etc.
What bothered me most was how the students were browsing the books. They didn't put them in the right place after and all the show table became a mess. What a shame.
The assistant tried a few times, also asking the students to not do that. But who will listen to him? Expect from this, I was pretty impressed by the fair.
I bought these two for me and some other kids' storybooks for my son. There were stickers and fancy pencils also available there, he got one of each too.
The colorful array of books sure reminded me of my childhood. I used to go to the public library often. Also, there was a library at our school. So after school, it was time for me to get into the paradise of books. I spent hours there, almost every day.
Currently, where I live now, the public library is almost two hours drive away. So I can't take my son there often. This type of book fair is so special for us because of the reason that we can browse books for hours and even read something there for free.
My son has been showing interest in comic books as he is growing up. I bought him two Diary of a Wimpy Kid recently and he loved them. He was browsing more comic books, he is only seven and no comic book was matching his reading skills. Maybe later when he grows up a little more.
The book fair was a nice experience for a few days, especially for me. The magic stories our mind can create and the thoughtfulness that comes with reading books is priceless.
I wish they would arrange such fairs more often.
