English Version

The Maturín Cathedral is one of the most iconic sites in the city and in Venezuela, and yet I almost couldn't go and visit it. Unexpectedly, like rain and sunshine, I went out to buy a phone for my mom in a store that is very close to the aforementioned architectural wonder. It was very hot: it was five in the afternoon. The place was packed with people camping in the shade, looking from afar at the Christmas decorations that, due to the time of day, were still off. The sky, on the other hand, shone like a clean, infinite loom, with few clouds covering the blue. We didn't want to go inside, just look at the facade of the temple. Everything was quite quiet and calm.

After photographing the most beautiful places, we decided to go eat ice cream. I admit that my throat hurt, this because of the flu that was trying to bend my body. Since I needed to cool off, I agreed to a Nutella and chocolate ice cream, which began to disappear as soon as it was in my hand. Maturín has always been like a pot of boiling water: bustle and stifling temperatures. However, the part of the city where we were was a bit quieter. At the ice cream parlour, I chatted with my mother about her new phone purchase; she was happy, after all, she had been without a smartphone for a long time.

We returned with the sun setting; it was already six in the evening. We noticed that people were beginning to arrive at the cathedral square to wait for some folkloric event, which, I suppose, would be getting dark by then. It was quite nice to do something different, and even more so without planning or scheduling it. I hope to return to the cathedral, although this time at night, to take pictures of the Christmas decorations on my smartphone.
