It's the weekend and I know I'll only be able to rest on Sunday afternoon, since I'm in full swing with the invitations to the Guaiquerí fair. I hope you have a great time and enjoy your free time as you please.
I want to tell you that I was very excited about the invitation I received five days ago to be in charge of photography at this event. I really enjoyed it very much. The event began with a beautiful preamble about the history of the Guaiquerí. I learned that the Guayamuri hill was formerly called “bitter yucca” by the Guaiquerí, translated from their dialect into Spanish. They gave it that name because they planted a lot of yucca on the hill. Anyway, I heard several fascinating stories that I will share with you little by little, because in one day I can't tell you everything I experienced in that beautiful fair.

Ya estamos de fin de semana y sé que solo podré descansar la tarde del domingo, ya que estoy a tope con las invitaciones que me hicieron a la feria Guaiquerí. Espero que ustedes la pasen bien y disfruten de su tiempo libre como les de mejor placer.
Quiero contarles que me emocioné mucho por la invitación que recibí hace cinco días para encargarme de la fotografía en este evento. La verdad es que disfruté muchísimo. El evento comenzó con un hermoso preámbulo sobre la historia de los guaiquerí. Aprendí que el cerro Guayamuri antiguamente era llamado "yuca amarga" por los guaiquerí, traducido de su dialecto al castellano. Le dieron ese nombre porque sembraron mucha yuca en el cerro. En fin, escuché varias historias fascinantes que poco a poco les iré compartiendo, porque en un solo día no puedo contarles todo lo que viví en esa bella feria.
After the opening remarks, a thirteen year old girl named Jocelys Megías was crowned as the princess of the Guaiquerí games. Being princess carries with it the responsibility of participating and awarding prizes in each game that is celebrated, and she will receive benefits and gifts.
The little Guaiquerí was crowned by the oldest woman in the community, who affectionately calls her mother.
Después de las palabras de apertura, coronaron a una pequeña de trece años llamada Jocelys Megías, como la princesa de los juegos de Guaiquerí. Ser princesa conlleva la responsabilidad de participar y premiar en cada juego que se celebra, y ella recibirá beneficios y regalos.
La pequeña Guaiquerí fue coronada por la mujer más anciana de la comunidad, que cariñosamente le dicen madre.
The crown is made with shells and the largest pearls collected in a month, shells and snails, along with this crown is given a handle and an anklet.

After being crowned, they put the princess on an emblematic boat with the mother Guaiquerí and the little girl who carried the crown in the basket of flowers. They stay in the boat with her for a while, symbolizing that they accompany her in her first steps as princess.
Después de ser coronada, suben a la princesa a un bote emblemático junto a la madre Guaiquerí y a la pequeña que llevó la corona en la cesta de flores. Permanecen en el bote un rato con ella, simbolizando que la acompañan en sus primeros pasos como princesa.
Then she is left alone to be admired by everyone, already a princess, and from that moment on, she starts the Guaiquerí games.
Luego la dejan sola para que sea admirada por todos, ya toda una princesa, y a partir de ese momento, ella da inicio a los juegos Guaiquerí.
I confess that this is the first time I see this celebration, and it was an honor for me to be invited, since I am a foreigner. Thanks to my photographic work that I have been doing in the community, in the few free moments that I have, they have appreciated my work and that is why I was invited. The truth is that it was very worthwhile. I have a lot to tell about this activity that lasted all day, from 6:30 in the morning until 4:30 in the afternoon.
Les confieso que es la primera vez que veo esta celebración, y fue un honor para mí que me invitaran, ya que soy extranjera. Gracias a mi trabajo fotográfico que he venido realizando en la comunidad, en los pocos momentos libres que tengo, ellos han apreciado mi trabajo y por eso fui invitada. La verdad es que valió mucho la pena. Tengo mucho que contar de esta actividad que duró todo el día, desde las 6:30 de la mañana hasta las 4:30 de la tarde.
