Caturday Coloring Pages and Style Codes

For almost a year I’ve been creating an image every day that starts with a single word. It will be a year in June.

I decided to play around with the images I’ve done in May. Well, actually the prompts I’ve used to generate the images is what I’ve playing with. I decided to see what they would look like as colouring pages.

Midjourney version 6 introduced style references which allows me to use an image to create images in the same style. That was pretty cool to play with.

Then they added the ability to generate random styles. The random style would generate a code. We’re told there are 4 billion possible styles. The codes can be reused to create similar styles.

I’ve been having a lot of fun with the random styles lately. Figured out how to generate a style sample that wasn’t based on a subject. Then I upload the sample to ChatGPT to have it give me an analysis of the style which I then enter into a catalogue of favourite styles I’m creating.

Yes, I sort of went of on a tangent, but not really. I not only created colouring pages using the prompt for the image that was selected each day, I played with some style codes.

Today is Saturday aka Caturday. May 4th was the word ‘cat’, so that is my subject today.

Here is the image for cat I created that day:

Here is the prompt that created it:

Here is the part of the prompt which will get me from coloured image to colouring page:

The colouring pages are not the same as the image I published on May 4th. I’ve been working on doing colouring pages for each day in May. They are somewhat similar to the original but not real close.

So, let’s have a look at the cat images.

Style Code: 3059286359

This is the code I have played with the most and really enjoyed the results most days. It’s not always been the image for the day but I have some images sitting in ‘inventory’ to use for future projects that I really like.

Here are some of the notes from ChatGPT on the code:

Illustrative: The image is highly detailed and has a smooth, illustrative quality.

Realism with fantasy elements: The realistic portrayal of the face and natural elements combined with fantastical and decorative details creates a magical, ethereal feel.

I ran the prompt three times to see what effect it would generate. I could have remixed one but I have found that if I want to see a real difference between the generations, that repeating the prompt does a better job.

The results will make interesting colouring pages. The only element being changed in the coloring page prompt above is the style code number.

Style Code: 3476486758

I like the results on this one and may play around with more variations of it.

Here’s what ChatGPT has to say in part:

Illustrative: The style is highly illustrative, with fine lines and intricate details that emphasize the delicate features of the scene.

Watercolor-like texture: The soft blending of colors and the light, airy feel suggest a watercolor technique, adding to the ethereal quality.

Style Code: 1436364670

I love the effect here. It’s interesting but would not make a good coloring page. The style code may help to create some interesting black and white pictures though.

Here’s what ChatGPT has to say in part:

Abstract: The image is purely abstract, with no recognizable objects or figures, focusing instead on shapes, colors, and patterns.

Expressionistic: The style conveys emotion and energy through bold color choices and dynamic composition.

Digital art: The smooth gradients, precise shapes, and intricate details suggest a digital medium, allowing for high precision and vibrant color representation.

Well, it did produce a sort of recognizable figure of a cat

Style Code: 569196235

This style has the potential to be rather distinctive. To use it as a coloring page I’d like want to bring it into Procreate on my iPad and close some of the open lines like on the body.

Here’s what ChatGPT has to say in part:

Narrative art: The composition and elements within the image suggest a narrative, inviting viewers to imagine the story behind the scene.

Contemporary: The artwork has a contemporary feel, with modern elements and a current-day setting.

Style Code: 864264102

This one would not be a colouring page. This cat got very tiny paws, a big body and two tails. Seems to be a lot of the abstract at play here.

Here’s what ChatGPT has to say in part:

Geometric abstraction: The style is characterized by geometric abstraction, with a focus on shapes and patterns over representational forms.

Contemporary and modern: The use of clean lines, geometric shapes, and a limited color palette gives the artwork a contemporary and modern feel.

I think overall, styles 3059286359 and 1436364670 could be fun to play with generating coloring pages.

As I create images each day the first round of images are all done using the random style settings which gives me about 24 prompts for the word of the day.

As I’m working my way through the list I take note of styles I like for analysis later on. Doing so will help me build a catalogue of favourites.

One of the things I love about Midjourney is it never becomes routine. Always something to try out.

As for the colouring pages from May’s Daily Echoes, I’ll let you know what I’m doing with them at the end of the month.
