Creamy Pints of Guinness for Beer Saturday

The end of Dry January

That's four weekends of January with zero alcohol, and I must say I feel great. Not so much as a smell of Porter or whiff of IPA this month. For three years running now I have taken part in Dry January.

I'm not sure if this is even a thing outside of Ireland, but here in the emerald isle Dry January is pretty common. After lots of nights out with friends and family in the weeks leading up to Christmas and the nights out over Christmas, where many people enjoy some wine, beer and other alcohol drinks, people feel like taking a break from it all, and so Dry January came to be.

So over the past four weeks, I have looked back on some nights out, IPAs, Guinness etc, have not consumed any, that is until today. This lovely pint below was my first in over a month and it hit the spot.

It is actually a cheeky early pint too, it's 3:30pm here and the Ireland vs England rugby match is about to start and there is a gang of us here in the Pub (I had most of this pre written earlier - just had to get some Guinness photos and it was ready for publishing)

The match should be good craic now, as there are a gang of eight English friends over. They come over most years in early Feb for our common friend's anniversary. It's twenty years now since our friend died and it's a great testimony to how cool a guy he was that his old friends from London still come over to visit every year.

For Years we used to have a memorial soccer tournament in his honour, but that kind of faded away after ten years. We'll raise many pints to his honour tonight.

To Bernie. Sláinte.

May the road rise to meet you.
May the wind be always at your back.
May the sunshine warm upon your face.
May the rains fall upon your fields.
And until we meet again,
May God hold you in the hollow of His hand.

This early start at 3:30pm could be dangerous, and especially because I haven't had a drink in months. This hangover tomorrow might well be hellish!

Until next time Beer Saturdayorians...

Oh by the way...

How was your Beer Saturday?

Where were you?

What was the drink of choice?

Who was with you?

Are those your feet?

How's your auld one?

Any other craic?
