Sometimes the simplest things are the best. You don't have to go to fancy cafes, or restaurants to enjoy yourself. Sometimes, what is needed is to have by your side your partner and a cold, cold, cold bottle of tasty beer.
So, that's we did this Saturday, Instead of going to a noisy, fancy cafe by the seaside, this time we preferred -after our dip in the sea- to go to the mountain, where in the summer months it is quieter, as most people are mostly at the beaches to enjoy the sea.
And of course when I talk about the mountain, please don't think that I was going hiking (no sports person, sorry), but in a wonderful little town at the foot of the mountain with a small river providing plenty of its coolness.
We stopped at one of those small cafes by the river, enjoying the nature and the shade reverently cast by a huge tree.
And even though it was cool in this place, the feeling of heat after a whole morning at the beach had not left us... And what better way to extinguish this heat than with a cold beer.
I've told you before about my weakness for bitter beers. I like the hop flavor to be strong and for that reason one of my favorite beers lately is a Greek one called "Mamos" which for me, it has the perfect hoppy taste that I like.
My partner, though, likes very much this specific beer, called "Vergina", that I have written about it in another post. This beer is a top seller in Northern Greece and is quite tasty and strong.
Well, when I saw in the catalog that it also has unfiltered Mamos, I said I would definitely try it. Unfiltered beer means that it has a cloudy color due to the yeast used for fermentation. This particular one, from what I have read on the company's official website, has a long fermentation process of three weeks and is bottled in small quantities.
Her appearance was pretty good, not too blurry but just enough. The first sip I think confirmed what I mentioned before. In addition to the cloudy color, the yeast in combination with the hops gave a stew that composed a fairly rich taste and its aftertaste was quite strong.
However, personally speaking, I lacked that extra sense of richness that the classic Pilsener Mamos has. But I think a beer lover will be rewarded with both the taste and the aroma if they try it.
The accompanying assortment of sausages that we preferred to accompany our beer (someone was very hungry and forgot to take a picture) was suitably spicy to "force" us (yeah, it was a tough internal fight #not#, but the beer refill won) to drink a second beer to quench the internal heat this time.
And because as mentioned before, that beer needs good company: this time, we had the nicest company with us, two cat siblings, that, after having their fill of the snacks we gave them, they lazied about under the couch and played together.
It was a beautiful #beersaturday that we will definitely repeat at the first opportunity.
Have you tried unfiltered beer? What is your opinion about it?
