The sandals that I bought for my little niece, Bridgette.
My nephew and nieces really do not have any clue that I will surprise them with a gift. But I think they already have a hint because I keep asking from them what they like for themselves.
I am happy that Bridgette likes my gift.
All of them call me “Auntie”, and they are welcome in my house. I am not rich. I do not have lots of money. Yet, I have this kind of attitude of giving rewards to my nephews, and my nieces if ever they achieve something from their own. It is my way of motivating them to keep moving forward and reach their dreams in life. I do not want to push or force them also to achieve something that they cannot do it. I do not want them to be pressured. I just want them to enjoy their study and it does not matter if they receive an award or not. I still give them a gift if they do something good.
I am in so much joy that the sandals fits to her.
My little niece Bridgette, she likes to have a new sandal because her sandal is no longer good. She said that she likes a sandal that have a silver glitter. So, I get a piece of straw and measure her slippers because I will buy her a new sandal. When I went to the town, I never see a sandal that she like. Thus, I decided to look for it in Prince Hyper Mart in Damolog, Sogod, Cebu, just a neighboring town because it also happens that I have an important appointment in that place.
I was so glad that I found immediately the design of the sandals that my little niece like. The sandal is not too expensive; nevertheless, it is from the bottom of my heart.
Bridgette is a grade 1 learner in the elementary school of our barangay. It is not a surprise for me anymore knowing that she will receive an academic award at the end of this school year because she is a consistent academic awardee from the first quarter until the third quarter of this school year.
I bought a money envelopes, and it is where I put my gift to Nicole and Bryle.
For my other niece, Nicole, she is already a teenager. A grade 9 learner from the High School of the neighboring Municipality, in Tabunan, Borbon, Cebu. I really do not know what she really likes, though I keep asking her.
I ask her what she likes to have, and she ask me why I am keep asking her. She is very curious and keep asking if I will give something to her. I told her that no, and I just want to ask. She said that she likes to have a new shirt because she only has limited shirt since her shirt does not fit to her anymore. She is growing too fast.
She is teenager and I do not know exactly the style or fashion that she wants, and I am not updated about the fashion trends this year for millennials. Therefore, I will not buy anything. I do not want to purchase a wrong item for her. I want her to be happy. So, I decided to only give her money to buy the things that she likes. It is not a big amount also, but it is enough to buy something nice for herself. I told her to spend it wisely because it is not easy to earn money.
My nephew Bryle, a grade 5 learner does not receive any academic excellence award, but he was recognized as one of the good player in Basketball in his school. He received a special award for his participation in the extra curricular activities in school that is why I also give him a gift. I only give him money just like Nicole. It is up to them if they are going to buy something or if they will just save the money for much important use in the future.
I love all my nieces and nephews. I treat them like my own children.
When I was young, I never experienced receiving a gift for being good in school. I also understand because life is hard during that time. Putting food on the table are more important than buying a gift. My mother's love, care, and sacrifices for us is more than a gift.
