Last weekend, we visited Barangay Looc, Mandaue City to distribute hygiene kits following a fire incident last March 12, 2024. The fire affected 2 sitios in the barangay with over 500 families affected.
It was a Sunday morning when we all gathered in the office to help pack the relief goods. Each bag consist of a pack of wet wipes, one tube of tooth paste, one tooth brush, two bars of body soap, one sachet of shampoo, and one bar of detergent soap.
This program is initiated by the foundation department of our company and all other departments are welcome to help in the distribution. I didn't have any activities for that day so me and my colleagues happily volunteered.
Upon arriving to the barangay gymnasium, i witness families make do of their circumstances and fitting themselves in one tent since the fire took down their homes.
Despite the misfortunes, they were still able to put a smile on their faces. I think that is how we are as a Filipino- we always "find the silver lining" no matter the situation. Some of them just recently bought their houses only to be swept by the fire.
The program finally comes to an end, as we leave the place with fulfilled hearts knowing that our small donation have helped hundreds of families. However, i notice there were injured dogs in the evacuation center too. This led me to realize that although our main priority is helping people at times of emergencies and calamities, I hope there will also be organizations that help animals at times like these because they need relief goods too.
I had a tough week prior to this distribution program but after the event, I felt humbled and reminded me to always be grateful.
That's it for today's blog. See you in my next one!
Sending some love and light
Love, Jane
