Con todo el respeto que merecen los ocho clasificados a éstas instancias, pero la mayoría de equipos más fuertes quedaron en un sólo lado de la competencia, en una de sus llaves. En unas horas tendremos esos duelos, que para muchos son los más atractivos, y de hecho, opinan que el campeón saldrá de éste lado. No sabemos cual, pero será uno de ellos. Hablemos de éstos partidos.

PORTUGAL vs. FRANCIA

PORTUGAL clasificó dramáticamente en la tanda de penales, luego que el mismísimo CR7 fallara un tiro penal en el tiempo de prórroga que hubiese evitado llegar a esas instancias. El portero Diego Costa paró los primeros tres disparos eslovenos y con eso metió a Portugal en los cuartos de final. Algo que hemos visto de los portugueses es que llevaron dignamente ese tiempo extra, disimulando el cansancio, y eso es algo a tomar en cuenta para su actuación de hoy. Tal vez, pensando en eso, Roberto Martínez se mostró contento y satisfecho por lo visto en sus entrenamientos, ya que sabe que la forma física puede marcar una leve diferencia en un partido tan importante. Los portugueses han recurrido al dominio del balón para posteriormente dominar en el marcador, lo cual es una de las señales que de seguro tomará nota el rival para poder enfrentarlos ésta vez, puesto que actualmente hacen gala de ser el equipo que mayor promedio de posesión de balón tiene, con un 65,3%.

FRANCIA ha llegado tan lejos con tan poco. Es uno de los equipo en deuda hasta ahora en la competición. Es el equipo que menos goles ha recibido (junto con España) con apenas uno solo. Tal vez sea esa parte de la fórmula que ha permitido que estén aquí. Pero la falta de gol es evidente. Sólo tienen tres goles en la estadística, pero todos ellos han sido autogol o lanzamientos del punto penal. Es decir, no han marcado con juego, en el campo, con alguna genialidad de su amplio número de estrellas. Ésto es algo preocupante, y parece ser que Portugal será su último rival si Didier Deschamps no arregla ésto para hoy. De hecho, él mismo ha admitido que CR7 y compañía son aspirante con creces de levantar ésta copa. El cambio más relevante que tendremos en la alineación será la sustitución de Rabiot en el mediocampo, quien no estará por acumulación de tarjetas amarillas. De seguro estaremos viendo a Camavinga, quien está pidiendo pista desde hace rato para estar en el once titular.

Estos dos se han enfrentado cuatro veces en ésta competencia, llevándose la victoria Portugal en una oportunidad y Francia en dos oportunidades. En el caso de los portugueses, esa victoria fue nada menos que la final del 2016 que llegaron a prórroga. En las dos ocasiones de Francia han sido en semifinales. Éste partido será la primera vez que se enfrenten en cuartos de final. Será un bonito duelo entre Cristiano Ronaldo y Mbappé, cada uno en diferentes etapas de su carrera. ¿Será el último partido de CR7 con la camiseta de Portugal?

ESPAÑA vs. ALEMANIA

ESPAÑA llega a cuartos de final con una excelente estado físico y estadísticas. Es el único equipo en competencia que no ha sido vencido en cuatro duelos. Es el segundo más goleador, con 9 goles, y mucho tiene que ver con que lo intenta muchas veces a lo largo de los noventa minutos, porque actualmente son los líderes en disparos (84) y disparos al arco (29). Es parte de ésta España que ha evolucionado y ha dejado atrás el juego de tener obsesivamente el balón a toda costa. Es una de las premisas que han quedado claras bajo el timón de Luís de la Fuente, quien asegura que parte del trabajo que hacen regularmente es tratar de prepararse en todos los aspectos posibles del juego, y eso incluye los entrenamientos de tiros de penal, por si acaso es necesario en ésta etapa. Por cierto, el entrenador ha hecho especial mención sobre los primeros minutos de juego de Alemania, los cuales suelen ser intensos y tratan de marcar la diferencia para mantenerla en el resto del encuentro. Por eso, desean estar preparados. En lo particular, esperaría ver como titular a Dani Olmo en vez de Álvaro Morata, puesto que es un hombre con más movilidad y está más descansado. Pero Morata es el capitán. Veremos qué decisión toma el entrenador.

ALEMANIA avanzó al vencer a Dinamarca 2-0 en octavos de final, con otra actuación consistente. Los teutones tienen también su estrella joven, Musiala, que sigue en el top 3 de goleadores de la competición, siendo el cuarto jugador que más dispara al arco. También, otros hombres dominan departamentos clave, por ejemplo, Kroos sigue siendo el que más pases ha completado. Todos esos son buenos argumentos para que Alemania encare un exigente partido ante España, y que, según su entrenador, buscarán tener el balón y dominar el partido. Asegura no tener miedo del rival. Además, dijo que en caso de irse a la tanda de penales, ya tienen una lista de participación. Un estilo muy alemán, ¿no? Mejor evitar la improvisación. Cada uno ya sabe lo que se espera de él. Son los anfritriones y han tenido un excelente apoyo en cada encuentro, y éste duelo no será la excepción.

España y Alemania se han visto en tres oportunidades en ésta competencia, terminando en victoria para España en par de oportunidades. La última vez fue en la final de 2008, donde levantó la copa el equipo rojo. Tendremos otro intersante encuentro en la mitad del campo de dos mediocampistas top: Rodri y Kroos, que ya hemos visto en duelos de Champions entre Manchester City y Real Madrid. Además, ambos equipos le dan mucha importancia a tener el balón, por lo que ambos serán puestos a prueba al tener largos períodos sin tenerla y deberán también jugar. ¿Será éste el último partido de Toni Kroos?

EL JUGADOR

DECLAN RICE forma parte del mediocampo que arma Inglaterra en el torneo, y llama la atención que en el último encuentro, cuando Southgate llenó de delanteros el campo de juego, Rice fue el único mediocampo que quedó. Eso demuestra el papel clave que tiene en la selección. Sin embargo, al igual que otros, no ha tenido su mejor actuación. A pesar de tener una alta precisión en sus pases (con un 91,75%) y ser el tercer jugador que más recorrido ha tenido en el torneo (con 49,20 km) algunos quisieran que esté en el banco y hasta se cambie la formación en el medio, como parte de los ajustes desesperados que tiene que tener ésta selección para terminar de convencer. Un rival como Suiza, quien juega bien al contraataque, pudiera no dar margen de error ante cualquier equivocación o pérdida de balón ingenua como las que han tenido éstos días. De volver a ser titular, Rice deberá mejorar su calidad y aportar más a la solidez y equilibrio.
