En el próximo mes de mayo, la máxima categoría del automovilismo internacional cumple 75 años y las actuales autoridades decidieron dar un gran paso como un ensayo o si lo prefieren una primera entrega de los festejos de ese hito trascendental. Por primera vez en la historia de la Fórmula Uno, todas las escuderías se juntaron en un show desarrollado en el estadio 02 de la ciudad de Londres e hicieron la presentación de sus autos y los respectivos pilotos.
No sé si a Ustedes les pasa, pero yo tengo una enorme fascinación por la historia, no solo de los deportes por supuesto, pero como estamos en el feed de la comunidad deportiva más importante dentro del ecosistema Hive, me enfocaré solo en eso.
He leído que existen muchas teorías para intentar explicar el porqué de la atracción por los hechos del pasado, algunos creen que es un vehículo para interpretar el presente a través de eventos ocurridos con anterioridad, en parte abono a esa teoría, nadie puede ignorar que algunos comportamientos y hechos pasados influyen en la actualidad y sirven para explicar de una mejor manera lo que vivimos en estos tiempos; en esa misma línea podemos agregar que se aprende a no repetir errores del pasado conociendo los acontecimientos que llevaron a grandes catástrofes en base a malas decisiones, en algunos casos ha servido, en otros parece que hay empeño en volver a tomar decisiones que provocaron enfrentamientos, muertes y destrucción.
En mi caso prefiero pensar que el conocimiento de acontecimientos históricos me ayuda a comprender la identidad y el sentido de pertenencia, también me motiva sobremanera porque encuentro cautivador el relato épico y novelesco de muchas situaciones del pasado que fueron reales o al menos lo más cerca de la verdad posible, mucho más que las novelas basadas en la imaginación del autor. También entiendo y me asombro de los logros de nuestros antepasados que pusieron todo su conocimiento, ingenio y habilidad para obtener resultados asombrosos.
En el caso particular de la Fórmula Uno 75 años es apenas un instante, demasiado poco, por un lado, pero asombroso por otro, poder apreciar el avance notable en la construcción de los vehículos, en la seguridad de pilotos, técnicos y público es algo para maravillarnos. Saber lo que se jugaban los primeros pilotos al conducir esos bólidos que eran bombas de tiempo, rápidas eso sí, pero sin el menor atisbo de resguardo por la vida, asombra y da un toque romántico, aunque pavoroso y dramático; total inconciencia y desprecio por la vida, ellos creían que era la manera de vivir, de progresar, de mejorar y muchos encontraron la muerte.
Pero volvamos al show de anoche, una presentación para el asombro donde cada equipo hizo gala de sus esfuerzos por sobresalir por sobre el resto, cada uno de ellos utilizó sus 7 minutos disponibles para realizar su show, algunos optaron por videos, otros por audiovisuales computadorizados, todos utilizaron extraordinarios efectos especiales, luces, colores y temas musicales, no se si alguien ganó la carrera por ser el mejor, nadie había planteado algo así pero se dio, compiten en la pista y ahora también en la presentación de sus vehículos y pilotos.
Esperé con impaciencia la Ferrari, porque es el equipo más antiguo y con mayor cantidad de participaciones en la categoría, estuvo presente en todas las carreras menos en la primera y aunque eso era motivo suficiente para aguardar su show, estaba Hamilton, el 7 veces campeón del mundo que a los 40 años provocó una revolución de información al anunciar el año anterior su pase a la escudería de Maranello dejando de lado una brillante y exitosa etapa junto a Mercedes Benz, quizás pensado en lograr un último título antes del retiro.
No me gustó el color del auto del Cavallino rampante, su principal sponsor hizo colocar su símbolo distintivo las letras HP dentro de un pequeño círculo de color azul pero rodeado de una superficie blanca como la leche, demasiado espacio utiliza convirtiendo el rojo distintivo en solo una parte del auto, mayoritaria si, pero no es totalmente rojo, como solía ser.
El resto del espectáculo impecable, todos y cada uno de los equipos aprovecharon su tiempo y mostraron sus vehículos, sin entrar en detalles técnicos, solo pudimos ver las relucientes carcazas, las publicidades, los trajes de los pilotos.
Para ver que nuevas soluciones traen, como se desempeñan, como se planteará la lucha por el nuevo campeonato, deberemos esperar unos días más, casi un mes para ser más preciso; el 14 de marzo próximo, en Melbourne, Australia, los motores rugirán y comenzarán las primeras pruebas del año, luego vendrá la clasificación y el domingo 16 la carrera.
Una nueva temporada para agregar a la rica historia, seguramente nuestros nietos y sus hijos verán esto que aun no ocurrió, como un buen capítulo de la historia de Fórmula Uno, ojalá los atrape tanto como a mí y como a muchos de Ustedes.
The 75th anniversary show
Next May, the top category of international motorsport turns 75 years old and the current authorities decided to take a big step as a rehearsal or, if you prefer, a first installment of the celebrations of that transcendental milestone. For the first time in the history of Formula One, all the teams were present at a show held at the 02 stadium in London and presented their cars and their respective drivers.
I don't know if you are, but I have a huge fascination for history, not only of sports of course, but since we are in the feed of the most important sports community within the Hive ecosystem, I will focus only on that.
I have read that there are many theories to try to explain why the attraction to past events, some believe it is a vehicle to interpret the present through events that occurred previously, partly supporting that theory, no one can ignore that some past behaviors and events influence the present and serve to better explain what we live in these times; in that same line we can add that one learns not to repeat past mistakes by knowing the events that led to great catastrophes based on bad decisions, in some cases it has worked, in others it seems that there is an effort to make decisions again that caused confrontations, deaths and destruction.
In my case, I prefer to think that knowledge of historical events helps me understand identity and the sense of belonging. It also motivates me greatly because I find the epic and novelistic account of many situations from the past that were real or at least as close to the truth as possible captivating, much more than novels based on the author's imagination. I also understand and am amazed by the achievements of our ancestors who put all their knowledge, ingenuity, and skill into obtaining amazing results.
In the particular case of Formula One, 75 years is just an instant, too little, on the one hand, but amazing on the other. Being able to appreciate the remarkable progress in the construction of vehicles, in the safety of drivers, technicians, and the public is something to marvel at. Knowing what the first drivers were risking when driving those cars that were time bombs, fast, yes, but without the slightest hint of protection for life, is astonishing and gives a romantic touch, although terrifying and dramatic, total unconsciousness and contempt for life, they believed that it was the way to live, to progress, to improve and many found death.
But let's get back to last night's show, a presentation to amaze where each team showed off their efforts to stand out above the rest, each of them used their 7 minutes available to put on their show, some opted for videos, others for computerized audiovisuals, all used extraordinary special effects, lights, colors, and musical themes, I don't know if anyone won the race for being the best, no one had planned something like that but it happened, they compete on the track and now also in the presentation of their vehicles and drivers.
I waited impatiently for Ferrari because it is the oldest team and with the most participation in the category, it was present in all the races except the first one and although that was reason enough to wait for its show, there was Hamilton, the 7 times world champion who at 40 years old caused a revolution of information when he announced the previous year his move to the Maranello team leaving aside a brilliant and successful stage with Mercedes Benz, perhaps thinking of achieving one last title before retirement.
I did not like the color of the Cavallino Rampante car, its main sponsor placed its distinctive symbol, the letters HP inside a small blue circle but surrounded by a milky white surface, it uses too much space turning the distinctive red into only one part of the car, majority yes, but it is not red, as it used to be.
The rest of the show was impeccable. Each and every one of the teams took advantage of their time and showed their vehicles. Without going into technical details, we could only see the shiny carcasses, the advertisements, and the pilots' suits.
To see what new solutions they bring, how they perform, and how the fight for the new championship will be set up, we will have to wait a few more days, almost a month to be more precise; on March 14th, in Melbourne, Australia, the engines will roar, and the first tests of the year will begin. Then there will be qualifying, and on Sunday 16th, the race.
A new season to add to the rich history, and surely our grandchildren and their children will see this that has not yet happened, as a good chapter in the history of Formula One, I hope it captivates them as much as it has me and as many of you.
