El caso de Dominick Reyes es un poco triste, llego al UFC invicto y lo mantuvo durante 6 peleas seguidas. Después se enfrentó a Jon Jones por el título de las 205 libras y toda su carrera se ha venido en picada. Perder contra Jones ha sido devastador, una batalla que fue sumamente cerrada, pero que en las tarjetas vieron como ganador a su rival, y Reyes se marcharía con el sabor amargo de la derrota. De aquel combate perdido, vinieron 3 nuevas derrotas, cada una de manera consecutiva y todas por la vía del KO.

Al parecer, la UFC no se equivocó, su contrincante Ryan Spann lo vencería por KO y uno sumamente fulminante. Dominick no sobrevivió un round, para mí debería considerar el retiro y no volver al octágono nunca más.

El 5 asalto definió el combate, Jon Jones cerro muy bien y termino llevándose la victoria.
Aun Dominick Reyes piensa que debió ganar esa batalla, está convencido que ha sido el hombre que derroto a Jon Jones y que los jueces le robaron. El comento, que venía con mejor preparación, estaba enfocado para recuperar terreno y volver al top 5 de la categoría.
Ryan Spann es un peleador que tiene gran pegada, debes cuidarte o un golpe te acaba la noche y Dominick Reyes no tuvo cuidado alguno. En menos de 2 minutos había recibido un aviso, gran golpe de Spann y Dominick probaba el piso. Aquí empecé a preocuparme, nuevamente vendría otro nocaut para Reyes y efectivamente ocurrió. Lo impresionante sería la forma, Ryan Spann conecta un jab de izquierda y eso fue suficiente para mandarlo a júpiter. La carrera de Dominick Reyes prometía mucho, había madera de campeón, lamentablemente eso se perdió y espero que recapacite sobre su regreso al octágono.
Existe el caso de Dan Hooker, otro peleador que prometía ser un candidato a campeón y que luego tuvo una racha de derrotas. ¿Pido retiro para Hooker? No, pues la situación es muy diferente, Dan Hooker acepto batallas con poco tiempo de preparación, hizo cortes de peso equivocados, bajar de división fue un completo error y por ello se vinieron derrotas que pudo haber evitado. No lo justifico, al final son igualmente perdidas, pero no recibió el daño que ha recibido Dominick Reyes y aquí se encuentra el gran distintivo del asunto. Un deportista no debería esperar que lo retire el deporte, mucho menos si practica artes marciales mixtas o cualquier otra disciplina de contacto, los luchadores deberían pensar un poco en su cerebro y las instituciones también tendrían que protegerlos. No importa la edad, Dominick Reyes tiene solo 32 años, está en una etapa donde se forjan los campeones, pero van 3 nocauts impresionantes, los daños cerebrales al largo plazo son mortales y es triste ver a un buen peleador caer tantas veces.
No deseo ver otro combate de Reyes, porque voy a estar esperando el nocaut, lo cual no está bueno, para que continuar de esta manera, cuando lo mejor es dar un paso al costado y evitar este daño innecesario. Los mejores tiempos de Dominick han pasado, muchos no se recuperan de 1 nocaut, ahora imagínate recibir 3 y todos con mucha rudeza. Dominick Reyes puede ser utilizado como un medidor de prospectos, lo colocaran a pelar con talentos en subida y ver si pueden derrotar a un hombre que algún momento fue un gran talento al título. Para mí, Dominick Reyes no tiene más que buscar, lo más sensato sería el retiro y no hay nada que me haga pensar lo contrario. Desde aquí le deseo lo mejor a este buen luchador.
