To Delegate HivePower or Not? .:. Recap of Hive Humpday Hangout Ep.32 + HHHLive Show Recording

in #hive-1893064 days ago

After the 3Speak issues with uploading videos (which are still not working), I have decided to upload videos to YouTube. But, to not overwhelm people by posting all the recordings at once, I have decided to try to publish them slowly. It's not easy to watch/listen to multiple 1-hour shows on the same day! As recordings piled up in these 3-4 weeks, I had trouble getting back to normality, but I'm close to it... Just a few hours we had a 33rd episode of the #HHHLive show, and I'm finally publishing the last week's show! Almost caught up!

So, we had another awesome show last week and whenever I thought the topic could be boring for participants, I was pleasantly surprised by the response! As the topic was HivePower delegations, it was expected to hear some different views and opinions, and that's what it is about in these hangouts! We want to hear different views, we want to discuss... We want to understand the person on the other side, and we want to support them if we can...

As we had a very broad discussion, I will share only titbits from the show, but I would strongly suggest you check the recording as there was a lot more talk than what I will mention in this description...

As I already mentioned in the previous post, in my explanation of HivePower, I failed to mention the most important thing, governance! 🤦‍ Anyways, I'm always thankful to have someone in the audience to remind me about that, and @felixxx was kind to do so!

When we had that sorted out, we went to the "meat and potatoes" of the show... Firstly, I told my story of my beginning on the chain, and my chasing of the highest APR at all costs!! I suppose that many did that when they started here, but luckily, I got to my sense and moved my focus toward people and not the highest short-term income!

The first on the mic was @jza, who shared his thoughts about HP delegations... The idea of delegating to the communities so that they can support their creators came up on our table... Nice touch!... What is the best ratio for delegation and your own HP? Delegating all your HP to get upvotes is wrong as it brings (only monetary, short-term) value to YOU... But, if you are supporting others with your OWN HP, it brings value to YOUR community too, and you can grow together! To people that engage with you, and authors that you like to read...

Liotes Divider Blue.png

@wanderingmoon told us about delegating to new users... and when they are not using delegated HivePower, it's time to undelegate it... That reminded me to share my thoughts about delegating to newbies...

@buttcoins came on the mic, talking about direct delegations to newbies, and about the value that they just got! Many times, they are not aware of the value and it's needed to explain them...

@jza was talking about having fun on HIVE, and not "creating value", which moved the discussion in the direction of "what is value"... Value is also creating connections, and having fun... Nothing wrong with having fun on HIVE!

@buttcoins was talking about the REASONS for delegating HP... The value of a post? It's kind of self-upvoting just to make the effort for the post-creation more meaningful and motivated... Monetary value is different from the REAL value...

@felixxx shared his notes that he took during the long discussion with others... and about his delegations from the past, and from the present...

Close to the end of the show, we talked about the "centralized curation power" and how centralized curation impacts the ecosystem... fewer people are upvoted, fewer different content types, etc. As a closing word, @foxkoit mentioned in the chat that people first, community first, and then the upvotes will come... Well said!

Don't forget to check out the show recording below!

We had 13 participants (including myself) in the show this week!!! Thanks for participating, @buttcoins, @duskobgd, @felixxx, @foxkoit, @hindavi, @jza, @melinda010100, @palomap3, @quekery, @sahi1, @sacra97, and @wanderingmoon! Thank you guys and girls for joining, sharing your views, opinions, and experience, and having fun!

Of course, as usual, we had a "traditional" after-show where we went wild and talked about movies, Hitchhikers Guide, etc... That part is not recorded and if you would like to participate, you should come to the livestream! 😃

Liotes Divider Blue.png

Thank you, guys and girls, once again! As a sign of appreciation, I will send some LEN tokens to all participants of the live show! You can pair them with LENM tokens, add liquidity to the diesel pool, and earn rewards! If you want to learn more about the project behind it, check out the @liotes account or visit the Liotes website... Of course, if you are not interested in it, you can sell tokens on the Hive-Engine market...

To encourage more people to come on the mic, I have sent an additional 100 Ecency POINTS to people who shared their thoughts in voice with us! This time, we had 4 participants on the mic, @felixxx, @jza, @wanderingmoon, and @buttcoins! Thanks for sharing the stage with me! So, this week, Ecency POINTS are going to them!

Special thanks goes to @melinda010100 and @good-karma for providing the space for the event!

Thank you for your time,
--ph--

Thanks for your curation! 🙏

It was an interesting discussion I was just following because this is the first time I have attended this type of discord topic. thank you. Greetings :)

Thanks for attending! I hope you will come more often to hang out with us! 😊

I will try. I have been here 3 years but still don't understand so many things. Slowly learning from my husband. May I ask you, how important are Leo tokens? and what is the benefit of staking them? I have a few worker-bees, what I can do with them? Have a nice evening. :)

LEO tokens are tokens of the inleo.io tribe/website... It is one of the most popular tribe tokens on Hive-Engine... If you want to build up your influence there, you can stake them... When you upvote posts there, you get curation rewards in LEO... (similar to HIVE)...

Regarding WORKERBEEs, they are miner tokens, which means that you have to stake them, as then they can "produce" BEE tokens for you...

I'm running a WORKERBEE pool where you can DELEGATE your STAKED WB tokens and receive your % of mining tokens + a small bonus... But, the first step is to STAKE them...

If not, you can sell them and that's it :)

The best thing would be manual citation without delegating to get the daily payouts, but not everyone has time, so better delegate to good curators

It depends on the reasons why you are on HIVE and what you want to accomplish...

If you want to build your blogging influence, the best way to do it is to do manual curation and engage with others... If you don't appreciate other authors, why would they appreciate you? 🙂

Thank you for the great works that you are doing in building hive

Delegation is a really powerful tool on Hive. I get that people want maximum income, but with the state of Hive we need to do more to encourage new users and other small accounts to stick around. Even a small delegation can help them and supporting curation accounts that vote them up is an option. I have one that is aimed at getting people to minnow status. That gets some delegations, but does not pay delegators anything.

Those with a decent stake have the power to make things better. I see some who delegate out almost all their HP so they cannot even give comments a decent vote. They could use @commentrewarder to remedy that. If we just focus on personal gain then Hive will suffer.

I have not been listening to these shows, but it is good to hear these opinions and there's a few people there who I have met in person.

You are right about everything that you stated! And some of your points were discussed in the show too! I'm a big fan of manual curation, upvoting comments, and explaining to others how important is to have your OWN HivePower, to curate with it, to reward your audience and followers...

Yes, the easy way is to delegate to some curator and harvest the gains... But, there is no growth in HIVE without manual curation and engagement...

Thanks for the comment! You should definitely come by and join the show if you can as you can share a lot with others... and show them a different way!

Cheers!!!

Nice topic! My ideal target is 80% to self and 20% to delegation, but it fluctuates around this level depending if I have projects to support.
!LUV

I kind of agree with you and going under 80% could be a bad decision... I'm a bit more strict with a bit higher percentage... :)

Delegating HP is a decision that must be taken with great awareness since with this we support users or projects of which we must be sure of the work they do in order not to give support to a misuse of our resource for a few coins in liquid.

Lovinghive ❤️

Exactly! Be cautious to whom you delegate and never forget to keep some HivePower to yourself, to support people that you care about!! 💪

I finally managed to listen to the E32 set in peace. I'm not sure if the trip seemed short because of the interesting topic or because I was driving a little fast 😀

I (for now) manually vote for authors and content that I like and follow.
I think that's how you make strong connections to other authors.
And as for delegation, I've only done it twice (I'm writing again, for now), with little HP, for two exceptional projects.
As long as I have time to vote manually, I will not hand over my HP to someone else to vote for me.

Wow! I hope that you didn't drive too fast and that the show was interesting and that's why time passed fast(er)... 😃

Thanks for sharing your view about HP delegations! 🙏

You are doing it right! It takes time to build followers and connections, but it will come when you work on it!

I didn't know the history behind how delegations came around. I thought it was always around, but I learned quite a few new things. It's an interesting topic to discuss and there are a lot of things to consider too in regards to delegations.

That's the beauty of these hangouts! You always learn something new, as more people participate and share their knowledge!
