Loving Hive: How I got a Taiwan postcard from my Hive friend

Hey there my Hive friends and followers!

I have been meaning to write this post for quite some time already but the circumstances haven´t been favorable and since I don´t want to wait anymore, I decided to change the plans a bit and roll it out today.

Some time ago, our one and only Pauline aka @livinguktaiwan came up with this amazing initiative called a postcard experiment in which she literally spilled the online engagement and friendship from Hive into real life. Pauline was recently visiting her family in Taiwan where she got this idea to send actual physical good old paper postcards from this beautiful country to any Hiver who wish to get one.

As she mentioned in this post just yesterday, she received a total of 20 postcard requests from as many as 15 different countries.

I´m one of the those 20 Hivers who participated in this cool experiment and I was really happy and excited when I found the postcard in my mail box. I actually got that postcard more than 2 weeks ago but my idea was to take that postcard to the center of Prague and take some nice pictures of my hand holding the postcard against some of the famous local landmarks like the Prague Castle or the Charles Bridge to make it obvious that the postcard really made it all the way over here to Prague but unfortunately, the weather has been horrible here lately.

I haven´t made it to the city center for this photo shooting but I didn´t want to wait any longer with this post so I just grabbed the postcard and took it to the local park here in our city neighborhood of Stodulky earlier today. It was cloudy and rainy again so the photo is not fancy at all but let me still show you...

Pauline knows that I´m a huge nature lover and she was so kind to a pick the theme of the postcard accordingly as it depicts some spectacular landscapes from Eastern Taiwan. Isn´t she amazing? :)

This is great. It could be made as a "torch" that the one who receives it could send it, so it would go through all the hivers.

That´s a cool idea. It does require a bit of trust between each other though as you need to tell the sender your real name and address and I´m not sure if everyone would be willing to do that :) Btw thanks for the support from Rutablockchain and your Hive Loving community! Much appreciated guys.

Haha exactly! :D I actually haven´t received a classic postcard in many years so it was really nice to get one :) Good to know these old school things still work even in the digital era.

I see. Many newbies struggle with these things, unfortunately... The World of Hive is fascinating but also very complex and difficult to understand... You didn´t have any mentors or more experienced friends who would guide you during your first days and weeks here?

Fakt jo? To je teda darebák :) Neodepisování na komenty tady na Hive (ale vlastně i obecně na cokoliv - zprávy, maily apod.) mi přijde jako dost nehezká forma ingoranství a neúcty. Měl jsem co dělat, abych Valggavovi nenapařil další down, když jsem viděl, jak ty vaše dobře míněné komenty plné rad a doporučení opět totálně odignoroval - žádná reakce, poděkování, lajk... prostě nic, nada, zero! Já tu mám tisíce sledujících, desítky komentů na většinu článků a stejně se snažím odepisovat úplně na všechno, pokud to tedy není bot nebo pokus o comment farming... Je to podle mě i otázka jakési elementární lidské slušnosti...

No na jeho (ritxiho) obhajobu teda musim podotknout, že si občas napíšem na Discordu. A taky chápu, že se mu letos jako fanouškovi Chelsea špatně komunikuje :D Já jsem ho schválně chtěl tím komentářem výš trochu popíchnout, jestl bude reagovat... :)

Co se týče Valggava, tak já jsem to zkoušel už několikrát. Moje komentáře s oblibou ignoruje. Upřímně to ve mně vyvolává pocit, že chce jen vzbudit lítost (rád se budu mýlit, ale zatím mě nepřesvědčil o opaku) a moje trpělivost je sice velká, ale taky není bezedná... :)

Já vím, že jsi to zkoušel už několikrát. Já taky. I další lidi. Já to všechno čtu. Zatím pořád stíhám dění v #cesky sledovat. A z Valggava začínám mít stejný pocit jako ty. Veškeré dobře míněné rady a doporučení ignoruje, stejně tak i ostatní komenty, dál si jede svůj "low effort - já chudáček - depka content" a ozve se jen v případě, když schytá nějaký downvote... No, každý svého (ne)štěstí strůjce...

Přitom jako nezačal úplně zle imho. Jako uznávám, že jeho články se špatně četly, ale na tom se dalo pracovat, kdyby chtěl. Někdo mu ostatně dal i online nástroje, jak si nechat zkontrolovat chyby... Pokládal ale aspoň otázky a vyjadřoval názor na témata, který jsou těžký a náročný. Když nic jinýho, mělo to občas aspoň "koule". Asi by s tím nikdy nebyl populární, ale zase kdyby tu bylo "jen" cestování, tak by to taky byla nuda, že jo. :)

Jenže pak mám pocit, že se totálně zacyklil (někde mezi vztahem/prácí) a teď je v módu sebelítosti no, jak říkáš (píšeš).

Ale tak dost o někom bez něj. :D

jo no, včera jsem byl s kámošema na zápase Arsenal-City a oba coby Arsenal fans byli z toho dost neštastní..tak jsem je uklidňoval, že prohrát doma s Brentfordem 0:2 taky není úplně ono :-D

chvíli jsem si říkal, že by bylo možná dobře, kdyby ho Poche ještě vystřídal...na druhou stranu, raději začít s čistým štítem :-D aby pak ještě kolo před koncem neletěl taky :D

That's really cool! I remember Christmas before internet, when we used to receive cards through mail. The fun thing was anticipating the posting ao it was not delayed.

I also received posdcards from Hive driends a while back. And a book too!

Too bad posting is a hella expensive, or else I'd send you something from our southern brazilian culture.

Yeah, I remember those good old days too. Christmas postcards and my grandparents also used to send us birthday postcards :) It didn´t feel so special back then, not as it sounds these days... So you got something from a fellow Hiver too, that´s cool! :)

Sorry to hear that man. Reminds me of my ShutterStock earnings :D :/ Have had a portfolio there for almost six years, spent hundreds if not thousands of hours pushing my photos in there through their increasingly difficult requirements and my recent earnings are like five bucks per month :D :/

This is such a lovely initiative. I miss this kind of treasure - handwritten postcards and letters. I am sure that it will be put up as a special trinket. Love the photos of it with the scenic Prague backing.

I'm so glad my post card made it safely from Taiwan to lovely Czech Petr. It's very thoughtful of you to take it out to Prague but never mind, I'm sure Postcard will be happy with you after such a long journey.

This postcard experiment has certainly been very encouraging, especially since my first round from over three years ago, there are many new people joining in. That proves Hive is a live and growing ecosystem, truly amazing!

Well, the postcard is actually in Prague with me now but not in the pretty part of the city :D :/

Obviously, people loved your postcard experiment and even here, in the comments under this post, some said they would join it if they knew about it... Seems like there is a lot of potential for a third round? :D ;) Just kidding, I can imagine how time consuming it is to pick, write and send postcards for so many people... But yeah, it was yet another proof that the Hive community is very live and active :)
