New curation milestone, updates & no more self-voting

in #hive-1893062 years ago

Hey there my Hive friends and followers!

I achieved another long awaited curation milestone yesterday and that inspired me to write this post where I will tell you more not just about the milestone but also about some updates on my recent curation efforts and I will also share a little personal decision with you that I decided to make and that will, hopefully, be another step towards being a better member of this amazing community that we are building here on Hive.

So what was that milestone about? You know I love numbers and I was really excited to see my all time curation rewards hit 15,000 Hive yesterday. I took this screenshot right after it happened :)

As for the updates on my recent curation efforts, there are actually more numbers that I would like to mention here. Just as I expected and as I mentioned in this post some time ago, quitting my Saturday upvote giveaway series gave me more time curate in the communities and tags that I´m interested in so in fact, my overall curation activity has increased. I have been watching my stats at HiveTasks for years and as of late, on average, I have been hovering between 400 and 500 upvotes given to some 200 - 250 different accounts every week.

votes.png

You may know that I´m not a part of any curation trail and I have also reduced my autovote list so I can proudly say that a (vast) majority of those votes coming from my account every week are actually manual votes.

Now talking about the curation stats, there is another number that I have been working on and that´s the percentage of self-voting. I have been lately keeping this number at just around 2%, which I think is acceptable by the community.

self.png

However, I have been thinking about it a lot lately and I decided to stop self-voting completely. I do think that a reasonable self-voting is something that most people here on Hive are ok with though. It actually should be like that if we want to introduce Hive to the masses. I mean if we only allow the "perfect people" here, we will never make it really big because, let´s face it, most of the people out there are not perfect. We are not perfect either. Nobody is perfect and self-voting may be one of the signs of not being perfect. I have nothing against it (at a reasonable level of course) and I will definitely not blame anyone for sticking to it but I, just for myself, decided to stop doing this completely and join the 0% self-voters club, starting from now so this will be the first post that I will not self-vote :) I just hope I will not break this resolution unknowingly, out of habit, but I will hold myself accountable and you can too :)

So yeah, these were some updates on my curation activities here on Hive. Thank you for your attention guys and thank you for creating interesting, original and AI-free content on our blockchain, it´s a pleasure and honor to curate it.

Congratulations on hitting your goals, greater heights @phortun and more posts on the lifestyles of the Zanzibar people 🥳🥳🥳🥳

Thank you! :) A few more posts about Zanzibar are yet to show up on my blog so stay tuned hehe :)

Alright sire😃

What are you using to check your stats?

I´m using HiveTasks. This is your profile over there: https://hivetasks.com/@alex-rourke

15k in curation is unreal stuff man, hats off 👏 👏

I love reading this stuff and hope to follow in your footsteps

Thanks man! Your recent growth has been really impressive so I´m sure you will hit this milestone one day too and it may not even take that long ;)

Nice one man, ya never know

Yeah! Good read up and as always so impressed with youre effort!
Welcome to the 0% self vote club haha
I made the decision as my HP increased.
The autovote topic is allways a hot one and I think (my opinion) one day we may get rid of them. I use them with a 95% threshold for voting mana. That way it will activate when I did not vote for some time.
I am thinking about canceling all autovotes like every two week or so haha
In the end I leave them on as it is nice to suport good people consistant.
Here and there I check where the votes go (like as intended)

Have a great one and all the best 🍀

Hey Sandy! Thanks for this great feedback and also for your generous delegation of course that has played an important role in my curation efforts! :) Hope you are happy with how it´s used but whenever you start feeling it could be used better somewhere, take it back right away of course, no questions asked! :D

Autovotes have always been a controversial topic. Some consider it "lazy curation" but it´s important not to forget that not every member of our community can be active here on daily basis and why such fellows of us should be losing out on the rewards because of that? I can give out a lot of manual votes every day because I have been still trying to do this thing fulltime but most people here have their jobs, studies, families etc. So yeah, I can definitely see the reasons for autovotes too...

Congratulations @phortun! 15.000 it´s a fantastic number for curation rewards. That´s great!
Now, on the other hand, I didn't even know you could vote for yourself hahaha

Thank you! :) Yes, you can vote for yourself but it´s not something that superheroes like Gatubela would do of course :D ;)

😺👊 that's right! I wouldn't do that.
In any case, I don't think my vote brings much money 🥴🤣🤣🤣🤷🏻‍♀️ I'm just a tadpole in a community of sharks and whales hahaha 😬 🤭🤭🤭

tak to GRATULUJEM!! nadherny milestone!
ja som sa pozeral na svoje cisla(first time ever, just found them, haha) a je to bieda, but ill get there..
congrats again man, nice job!!

Wow! You are so incredible my friend. I am truly amazed of the 15,000 curation rewards that you have achieved in Hive, not all can get it and I must say that you are really amazing. I wish you more success and blessings to you as always. Have a nice time and take care!

Thank you very much for these kind words. I hope you will celebrate this milestone too one day :)

I haven't voted myself for a very long time either. I prefer to spend my voting power on other people in the Hive. I only voted myself when I posted during the earthquake to send help to the people there. 15000 is great by the way. My total curation earnings are only 458 haha. I'm aiming to increase it to 300 per month. I don't know how much HP I need for that. Thanks for your votes and the value you add on Hive.

You have been doing a lot for the community, thank you for that :) Your fund raising posts to aid those hit by the earthquakes were such a nice gesture from you. As for your question, I would say that to make 300 Hive on curations per month, you would need to have some 40,000 HP. Rough estimate ;)

That was the first thing that came to my mind. And it worked. We sent a good amount of aid to the earthquake zone, all thanks to Hive. Wow 40000 is probably years away. Considering I reached 7000 in about a year haha.

The Hive community has raised a lot funds that were used for many different good causes over the years and that´s one of the things I love about Hive for sure ;) Well, 7k HP in one year is a very good start. You have established here very well so your future growth can be even (much) bigger than that. You can easily be an orca in a few years :)

I'm good for a couple of years. As long as it doesn't take longer than that. I think 7k is a good start for the first year. If the earthquake hadn't happened and so many people hadn't been affected and I hadn't lost my momentum, I probably would have aimed for 10k, but I think I'm okay with that for now.

Blahopřeju k dalšímu pěknému milníku a přeju brzké dosažení dalšího.

Díky moc :)

Many many congratulations to your goals. I have been working here for some time now, I stopped working before and I am trying to work regularly and increase my HP and support the new committee. My effort is also to work hard day and night and achieve all my goals. Yeah self voting is good for our reputation.

Thanks and good luck reaching your goals :)

Inu, podíval jsem na ta čísla sám u sebe... Má celkově asi 3000 hive získaných z kurátorství. To není vůbec málo.

I am not by self-vote side because I don't find it fair. You did the right decision. By the way, I believe that you do a lot for many users in HIVE community ;)

Thanks for these encouraging words my friend :)

Nice job on hitting your goals! That is pretty awesome. I appreciate your stance on self voting. I don't have a problem with it, but I don't really do it too much because I know some people do. I think it's best to stay under the radar sometimes given the moods of some folks on the chain! :)

Thank you! :) When kept at reasonable levels, I don´t have a problem with it either, like I said, people are not perfect and if we want Hive to be adopted by millions of Web 2 users, we need to be somewhat benevolent... I think the difference between an abuser and someone who may have a few % of self-voting but does a lot for the community is easy to tell. Oh and yeah, some folks here tend to be unnecessarily aggressive towards even the slightest misconducts here, I have noticed that too ;)

That's the good thing about Hive, it is pretty easy to look at an account and see if they are just milking the system or if they are spreading the love around to help this place grow. I've been trying to up my comment voting game. I vote on pretty much every single comment I get. It might only be $.06 per comment, but it encourages people to keep coming back to my blog.

Exactly :) Nothing can be hidden on a blockchain ;) Yeah, I have been rewarding my genuine commenters too, it´s a good way to promote engagement and social networking.

For sure!

Apart from self-voting, you are making a very big progress. $0.45 per vote. This is great, and this is what makes you get a lot of followers. This is normal because everyone wants to get some votes from you, and I too HHH 😅

Unfortunately, a lot of curation also means constantly drained voting power... If I let it fully recharge, my full upvote would be worth around 1 dollar. At the current price of Hive of course. I remember that during the Hive ATH back in November 2021, my full upvote was worth some 5 dollars. Hopefully, we will get there again. Thanks for stopping by :)

I think when you get to $5 per vote You will not vote for anyone🤣 I have seen this with many Steemit users

Why would I do that?

I don't know why I've always wanted to know why all users with high voting power don't vote for emerging accounts

This is not true. Definitely not here on Hive...

I do not think that the hive community will be different from the steemit community, because the majority of hive users now are former users of the steemit platform.

Hive has already been around for 3 years so we already know how things work here and I can tell you the difference between Hive and Steem cannot be bigger. If you cannot see the differences yourself, there is nothing I can do for you...

Welcome to the Club ;)

I think i didn't make a self vote since i am here, i only voted only less than 10 times my other account, because i was to fast voting some posts in my feed, because i had no time. Thats long time ago.

I hope i will be a dolphine soon ;)

Hey there, thanks for your contribution to the debate :) I´m impressed to see how many people here are already in the 0% self-vote club, it actually also makes me feel a bit embarrassed that it took me so long :D :/ Thanks for stopping by again and I hope you will reach your dolphinhood in no time, almost there!

Hey @phortun, here is a little bit of BEER from @mein-senf-dazu for you. Enjoy it!

Learn how to earn FREE BEER each day by staking your BEER.

I made a query in hivesql few days ago only about 2% have every made a selfvote.
Ok, i could check votes on alt-accounts. So could be little more.
!BEER

You mean that just 2% of all Hivers self vote? Are you sure? I would say the number is much higher... I do check random posts for that sometimes, just out of curiosity, and it feels like at least 1/3 of all the people here do it sometimes...

Ok, i have to correct it, about 2% of all Accounts, if i habe time i will check how much it is currently and hiw much are posting.
There are a lot of accounts never have posted. That i should have checked, but didn't do.

I see. That´s the reason. I was thinking only about accounts that are active and post regularly ;) If you get some updated results, please let me know. I´m curious to know...

If i forget, give me a reminder in few days ;)

@tipu curate

Blahozelam!

Congratulations, your post has been upvoted by @dsc-r2cornell, which is the curating account for @R2cornell's Discord Community.

Thank you guys!

Congratulations of reaching your milestones - also on joining the 0% self voting club. I have been a member of the club for ages now but my HP is tiny comparatively. haha
It is amazing that you manually upvote so many posts - that is an achievement by itself. All the best wishes for achieving your next milestone.

Thank you for these kind words :) It doesn´t matter if your stake is big or small, spreading the votes (and love) across the community is what counts here ;) You have been doing a great job. Keep it up!

Thank you

May I ask what is the app in your screenshot?

Hive Tasks. Here is your profile: https://hivetasks.com/@sodom-lv

Enjoy all the stats :)

Nice! Congrats on the milestone. I had a hard time while thinking about self-voting, and for the most time I was on the "strict NO" side, but at the end it all depends on context and other actions of users. I knew you didn't overused this feature. Anyway, glad to see you on the bright side of the (Hive) Power :D

Thanks buddy! :) Actually, I remember you telling me that self-voting wasn´t cool once ;) Now, I´m in the same club like you :) Btw I gave you a follow a couple of days ago. I always follow just 50 people (blame my inner OCD for that :D) so every time I add someone, I need to review my followings and remove someone :D But your recent Tenerife reports got you there so now, I will read all your posts because I do check out my feed every day. Just saying... You are Przemek (Přemek for me), right? I´m Petr (Piotr for you), nice to meet you :D

Yeah, I was much more strict about this back then, and still have a doubt when voting content from self-voters. But as I mentioned before, I adjusted this view additional factors:)

So now I have another motivation to translate all of my posts to English. There are some periods when I don't post, and there are some usual every day posts sometimes, but I try to stick to some level of quality. Always, while sharing some ideas and thought I'm open to critics and discussion. I see it as much more valuable than fortifying my own biases.

Nice to meet you Petr!

Well, usually, I can understand some 80% of texts written in Polish and I actually like to read them to improve my Polish but yeah, English versions would be useful too :D Not sure if I will be challenging your biases though because from what I have learned about you, we seem to have similar opinions / mindsets :D ;)

Hey @phortun, here is a little bit of BEER from @sandymeyer for you. Enjoy it!
