Last week in the #earnspendgive community I gave a post prompt. "What are the first steps on HIVE". I got some excellent responses from a few members.
@emreal
@jjmusa2004
@rare-gem
@monica-ene
All posted excellent start up posts. If you are looking at working on Hive to join communities and make some money. Click any of their names above to go their post.
But I'd go a little further. When onboarding a new user make sure they know there are many ways to utilize the HIVE blockchain. Sure you can make money by posting, but when I'm talking to some of my wealthy friends I stress the 20% return on HBD. Investing can be useful on HIVE also. Other programmer friends may find the ability to create something censor resistant with a build in payout system to be just what they need!
A lesson from my Pharmacy class
When I was in Pharmacy class one presenter asked
What is the first thing you should do when you get to the Pharmacy every day for your shift?"
There were lots of different responses to the question:
- Unlock the Pharmacy
- Turn off the alarm
- Turn on the computers
- Put on your white jacket
- Make sure the registers are turned on
- Turn on the lights
and so many other things. You know what? All of those things ARE important to be done before opening the Pharmacy for the day.
But the professor then took a moment to say that the most important thing that is done is before the key even enters the lock to unlock the store.
Before even opening the door take a moment and ask..
.... Why am I here? For the Pay? To help my customers? and ask
.... Why am I at this location?
.... Am I in the right mindset? Am I focused on patients or am I distracted?
I believe before any person enters the HIVE ecosystem and every time that they sit down to work on it they should ask themselves similar questions.
Mostly.
Why HIVE
Why am .. I .. on HIVE
YES the people who posted in #earnspendgive did an awesome job on telling what to do when you first open the door to HIVE and I thank them for doing so. YES, I'll be sending them their reward (150GLD coin) for making awesome posts.
But I wanted to take this opportunity to say that I think there are FOUR valid reasons to be on HIVE and I think every user or potential user should consider what they wish to accomlish every time they sit down to post or even before they decide to get a username.
I believe the four types of users are:
- Workers
- Builders
- Users
and - Thieves
Users
I'll admit that I started off in this category. I used the Splinterlands game to have fun and make a few coin. Then I branched out to the Actifit community in an effort to have motivation to get fit and lose weight.
Then I decided that the ability to send money anywhere in an instant was a very useful ability on HIVE and tried using that....and it worked.
For users its not important to make introductory posts or make regular content. It's all about finding how HIVE works and how it can serve their needs.
It wasn't until later that I decided that I would leverage the power of Hive to make a community and try to do something more with it. Which brings me to :
Builders
These are the awesome people who make it all work. They are the programmers to make the dApps like Actifit, Splinterlands and so much more. They are the programmers to make the source code that runs the Hive network.
However, it is more than that. It is the people like "theycallmedan" who I believe is responsible for the 3speak branch (not putting the @ sign in there because I'm not 100% certain of that fact and don't really like brining attention from whales).
It is also those hardworking people like @bruno-kema (#hivelearner moderator) and others who work to keep the communities going on Hive.
Do builders take the same steps on HIVE as others? Maybe. Maybe not. a dApp developer could care less about introductions or posts and just be solely focused on programming.
Indeed I'm looking at the SPK network and providing storage for video's on Hive. A way to utilize Hive and make some hive dollars but in doing so I'd never have to type a single word for others to see.
Workers
These are those people who add the content to Hive. For those people posting regularly, making good content, making connections and making Hive inviting is so important.
However, as a worker I'll say the pay on Hive isn't great. Yes it provides regular payouts. Yes, it has no money required to start...but it should always be in the back of your mind.....This is Web3 where it is not how much you know but WHO you know that make you money.
In all my posts it is only the top 1 or 2 votes that make 99% of my income. Many of the smaller votes total up to virtually nothing. Who do those valuable votes come from? Typically the builders!
So, as a tip for any worker who want to make more money? Work hard to build the community or build Hive into what the whales (typically builders) want.
Thieves
But some people just see Hive as a way to enrich themselves. They come to the table and think how can I get maximum money in minimum time with little effort.
They come with the mindset "I'm going to show up, post something awesome, take my money and I'm gone".
In short, they want to come and steal the value from Hive with little work and no dedication.
For those people I would say that the builders and workers won't stand for that. They are smart and "fly by night" posters will make little to nothing.
Now, having said that the smartest thieves will pretend to be builders and leverage level 2 coins in order to create "pump and dump" or other nefarious schemes. It happens so to all users ..beware.. when on HIVE. The majority of people are wonderful but there are thieves out there.
Conclusion
To sum it up:
What's the first thing to do on HIVE?
Figure out why you are here
There are so many things that can be done and so much potential to develop new and exciting things!
If you want to build something....Look at how HIVE can help you to build something awesome!
If you are looking to use the system...There are awesome investment opportunities, great games, great ways to send money and so much more. Explore and find out what fits your needs.
If you are looking to work on the system....There are awesome communities and other ways to make money on HIVE. Just remember to be respectful and help build something the builders are trying to make and they money will come in little by little.
If you are trying to make as much as possible with as little as possible...please don't bother. HIVE doesn't need thieves and you are unlikely to make much money. The moderators, whales and experienced users can find someone who is in it just for the money with little effort
HIVE is so much more than just a social media site.
It's a full features blockchain with unbelievable possibility.
Before getting your keys and unlocking the door to HIVE...take a quick moment to say why am I here? What do I want to accomplish? Knowing that will make it so much easier to navigate the maze that is Hive.
Thanks for reading
and as always please leave comments.
I love comments
