How I started to crochet ...
A few months ago we decided to adopt a kitten and so we're walking in a pet store. I was looking to buy some toys for the little one and then I saw the prices! I thought that for the price I could make it by myself. That would be cheaper and meanwhile I could have fun creating things. So the next stop was at a craft store 😂
On Youtube you can easily find tutorials on how to start and I wanted to create amigurumi toys for my cat.
So I started with a simple fish ... Well I thought it would be simple. Okay, with a lot of imagination you could tell it was a fish 😉 But I did some more research on reading the patterns and I learned by doing some more. The second one was already a bit better and like always, practice does the trick!
To practice a bit more, I made a mini pillow, stuffed with catnip and a lot of loose threads arounds it. This is a very easy thing to start with to learn to make the same stitches. He loves it because the threads trigger him a lot.
Later on I made another one, more tube like and with some fluffy cotton. And of course he wants to help me while I'm busy 😂
And I love crochet. The next project was to make some mouses for him. I made a small and a big one. Now that he's 4 months old he drags them all over the place. So I think he likes them.
For the most amigurumi's you need to start with a magic ring and I needed some practice before I got it right. There are two ways and the first one was a bit hard. Later on I discovered another way and this was much easier.
While looking for amigurumi's on the internet, I found a million things. The best ones I bookmark for later use. So now we introduce him to sea animals. I made a couple of octopuses and hang them up in several places. He loves to play with the tentacles.
One of the latest animals I made was a little crab. But Bocola doesn't show much interest in it. Anyway, I had a lot of fun making it and he as well!
And now the last one. It's not fully complete yet as I need to make 2 more legs.
As you can see I use eyes to give them a cuter look. Make sure to use safety eyes if you plan to give the animals to your kids or pets.
My hubby always jokes with me when I'm doing crochet. He says: "yeah, you're right not giving 12 euro to a toy and making it yourself. You're already spend more than 100 euro on materials and tools. What a profit!" But on the other hand he likes the creations and meanwhile I can't do any harm 😂
So that's it for today. I hope you liked the post and maybe you got some inspiration as well.
Some of the resources I used to get started:
Basic stitches:
Magic ring:

And this one was the best for me. I know .. It's a guide for kids!
I can make an endless list here, but if you look on the internet you'll find one that suits you. And sometimes it can be unclear of what to do, don't let that stop you, look on for another tutorial!
Stay paw-sitive! 😽
