Materials for the realization of this project:
Clay
Two bowls
a small container
fabric (pillowcase)
a glass, a plate
a knife
a sponge
water
Procedure:
To begin with clay is characterized by having a plasticity when mixed with water, so to identify this mineral sometimes you have to do the worm test which is to take a little bit of material, put water and hand knead it a little and shape it, if it is plastic and does not break we are in the presence of clay.
After selecting our clay, it must be separated from the stones, organic matter and sand, to do this the mineral is taken and placed in a basin with water to soak the material, this is left for a day so that the water disintegrates the hardness of the material making it docile.
Once it has soaked, with the hands the pieces of clay that were not disintegrated are removed, when this work is finished, a sieve or strainer is taken and the mixture is passed through another sieve to separate the residues. After this process we look for a cloth, in my case I used a cotton pillowcase and pass the mixture again and what is left in the pillowcase is the sand and in the other tube is the clay, this step is necessary if we want a mass without traces of sand.
The already strained clay is left for several days, in my case I left it for a week and a half to acquire hardness, removing with a glass the water that by means of the decantation was on the surface of the clay, after this step when the clay was harder I put it in covers and guide it in a rope to finish its drying process, taking four more days to complete the drying process until it became a moldable mass.
After kneading the dough I proceeded to stretch it with a broomstick to a thickness of half a centimeter, with the help of a glass I made a circle which is the base of the porrón, with the remaining dough I proceeded to cut it in a rectangular shape and then I added barbotina (watered clay dough) to the edges of the circle and then I was giving a circular shape around the base.
With the help of a knife I was tying the cylinder with the base and the union of the cylinder, with a damp sponge I was giving touches to make the piece more uniform, and the final detail.
The same procedure was done with the plate in previous days with the difference that when the dough was already extended with a plate was given the form, placing the dough on the plate and giving it shape.
These pieces must be dried inside the house by placing a cloth or a bag over the piece, this drying process usually lasts a week and then is taken to bake in a ceramic oven between 600 to 1000 degrees centigrade temperature.
