Making paper cards has never been one of my favourite things to do. For some reason, the paper cards I tried making in the past turned out so messy or too disproportionate.
However, a friend of mine requested a diy gift and in her words she said; “make me something that can cheer me up anytime I look at it”. I thought hard and long on what could cheer a person up each time. To successfully arrive at the answer, I had to put myself in the friend's shoes. Eventually, I came to the conclusion that anything I made for the friend should be something that I would like to look at and by extension, something that could cheer me up too. With that, I got to work
Materials Needed
- coloured paper
- a pair of scissors
- a pencil
- water glue
- an object with a circular base.
Procedure
There are over a thousand and one methods of making a paper card but I chose to use one of the easiest methods I know of–circles.
First, I drew circles on my coloured paper using the base of a coffee mug and then proceeded to carve out the circles. In the absence of an object with a round base, a compass and pencil can suffice.
After cutting out the circles, I folded them neatly in half. This was to ensure a sharp edge was formed.
The next thing I did was to cut out a little background white paper on which all the circles would be attached to. The measurement of this white paper depends solely on the size of the circles. To ensure the right measurement, you can couple the circles together to see if they fit.
Once I got the proper centre paper, I began attaching the circles right at the folded line. As such, half of the circle went behind while the other half was forwards.
While I left the circles to dry, I cut out yet another tiny piece of circle that was going to serve as a seal.
On the circle, I poured a double layer or shredded paper and left it to dry.
Once the glue had dried up, I shaped the seal into a circle once again and the seal was ready.
The next thing I did was to write a goodwill message on a rectangular piece of paper. I am not too good at calligraphy so excuse any glaring mistakes you see. With precision, I wrote out “I love you” On the piece of paper and went ahead to attach it to the body of the card.
The last thing I did was to attach the make believe seal at one end of the circle and my diy card with a goodwill message was ready.
I will get the card to the friend tomorrow and I can't wait to see how she reacts. I can only hope this goes a long way to cheer her up each time she looks at it. What do you think of the card?
