With changing seasons, this time to a colder one, comes health challenges especially for kids. Cough and colds are diseases common during this kind of season.
The situation especially concerns me since my kid is asthmatic and having colds and cough triggers it.
Though I cannot do anything about the weather, I can at least help my kids prevent these disease by helping them strengthen their immune system.
I do believe that fruits and vegetables can provide necessary vitamins and minerals that can boost their immune systems.
Though fruits and vegetables are readily available, the problem is how to make my kids eat them. They are picky eaters and they choose food other than fruits and vegetables.
For this reason, I come up with a drink in which I blend in fruits and vegetables. I decided to make a smoothie from mango and malunggay leaves (Moringa oleifera).
Mangoes are sweet, nutritious and my kids love them. It will make delicious drink my kids will surely love. But I cannot discount the health benefits malunggay can provide. It is said to provide 7 times more Vitamin C than oranges and 15 times more potassium than bananas . Aside from that there are more health benefits from taking in malunggay leaves. It is also readily available as it grows everywhere in the country so it is so easy to find. We have our own malunggay plant so I don't need to buy them.
These are the reasons why I want malunggay to be part of my kids diet.
So let me share with you my Mango-malunggay smoothie:
Ingredients:
1 mango fruit
Malunggay leaves (you can adjust the amount depending on your preference)
1/2 glass milk
1-2 tablespoon honey
I just placed everything in the blender. For a few seconds, I let the all the ingredients blend until the malunggay leaves are torn down into very tiny pieces.
The amount of ingredients can make a glass of mango-malunggay smoothie.
The good thing abount adding malunggay to the mix is that it doesn't have a distinct taste or smell. The reason my kids love it.
