I hope You may know about the Victoria Memorial. It is one of the historical buildings in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. I've been inside Victoria only once. I was studying in primary school at that time. It has been a long time. I have forgotten what I saw inside the building. Around one week ago I visited it again but I didn't go inside this wonderful structure. The Victoria Memorial has now been converted into a museum and is maintained by the Ministry of Culture. Not only domestic but foreign tourists also come to visit this historical building.
This magnificent building was built by Lord Curzon to honor Queen Victoria. Lord Curzon was the Viceroy of India. After the death of Queen Victoria in 1901, the thought of making this grand building came to his mind. It was formally opened to tourists in 1921.
The Victoria Memorial is 103 meters by 69 meters and rises to a height of 56 meters. It is made of white marble, called Markana.
There are gardens surrounding the building that extend over the area of about 57 acres. The gardens contain beautiful green lawns and large trees.
The area that surrounds the Victoria Memorial also has large ponds. This is wonderful place for hang out. If you visit the place, you will see the whole area is filled with lovers. This place is very popular among them.
Unfortunately, covid-19 cases are increasing again. So, the government may close the Victoria Memorial for visitors if the situation goes worst.
If there is any business most affected by Kovid-19, it is the tourism sector. West Bengal government has already canceled UK flight. However, Victoria is still opened for visitors. Next week the government may decide what to do.
You can see the tallest building of Kolkata from the Victoria gardens. You can see the building in the above picture.
The gardens surrounding the building is well maintained. Visitors can sit and relax there.
If you are planning to visit India, then you must come to see the wonderful view of Victoria Memorial. Since the third wave has arrived, you should avoid traveling for the time being.
