This suspenseful dialogue is from the prequel of ‘Game of Thrones'. ‘House of the Dragon’ teaser was released on Thursday. Internal Targaryen family strife over the Iron Throne's successor was hinted to in the teaser. Princess Rhaenyra (Eve Best) has been designated King Viserys' successor, but her route to the throne is riddled with deception, violence, and more. Internal civil war will allow Starks, Velaryons, and Lannisters to join the empire and overthrow it.
George R. R. Martin and Ryan J. Condal have devised this new HBO fantasy drama series called ‘House of the Dragon’. It is based on Martin's 2018 novel ‘Fire & Blood’ and is a precursor to the HBO television series Game of Thrones (2011–2019). Set two hundred years before the events of Game of Thrones, the series follows the beginning of House Targaryen's demise, as well as the events leading up to and during the Targaryen civil war, known as the ‘Dance of the Dragons.’
In October 2019, House of the Dragon was given a straight-to-series order, with casting starting in July 2020 and principal filming starting in April 2021 in the United Kingdom. The launch date for the series is August 21, 2022. It will have 10 episodes in its initial season.
The creator of the ‘Song of Ice and Fire’, George R. R. Martin, claimed in November 2018 that a "possible spin-off series would be solidly based on material in ‘Fire and Blood’. By September 2019, Martin, and Ryan J. Condal's Game of Thrones prequel series, which tracks the beginning of the end for House Targaryen, was on the verge of earning a pilot order from HBO. House of the Dragon, based on Martin's book ;Fire & Blood’, was ordered straight to series the following month. The showrunners will be Condal and Miguel Sapochnik, who won an Emmy for directing the episode ‘Battle of the Bastards'.
Sapochnik was also tapped to helm the series' debut and subsequent episodes. The series takes set 200 years before the events of Game of Thrones, during the reign of King Viserys -I Targaryen, and culminates in the Dance of the Dragons, a Targaryen civil war. The proposal is a revision of Game of Thrones writer Bryan Cogman's previously rejected spin-off plan, which HBO officially passed on.
The ten-episode first season of the series began principal filming in April 2021. Most of the series was shot in the United Kingdom. During the last week of April 2021, filming took place in Cornwall, England. Parts of the first season were also shot in Spain and California, according to Production List. House of the Dragon was the first project to utilize Warner Bros.'s new virtual production stage at Leavesden Studio. Production was halted for two days on July 18, 2021, owing to a positive COVID-19 case.
House of the Dragon will be filmed in the Province of Cáceres in western Spain from October 11 to 21, 2021, according to the Spanish daily Hoy. On October 26–31, the series was filmed in Portugal at the Castle of Monsanto. HBO confirmed that House of the Dragon had finished production, in February 2022.
