Since past 3 days I have been writing about the Ganesh Chaturthi festival celebrations. The festival is over and it feels like everything happened so quickly, but that's not the reality, before the festival there is so much preparation to do and it takes me days to set up everything. I start doing things from a week in advance and make sure that by the time the big day arrives everything is set and then I do not need to rush up.
Even though I do all the preparations in advance, there are some things which I need to do it on the day of festival itself and then cannot be done in advance, like setting up the table for the festival, doing the rangoli, making the flower arrangements and preparing sweets. All these things are to be done on the day of the festival and for that I need to wake up very early. I am not an early riser so it definitely is an effort for me to do these things early morning.
This year I had decided that I am not going to buy anything new and do all the decorations from things I already had, it was a good decision, I realized I had so much of these things which I could use up. Here are some pictures of some creativity that I used during the festival days.
As always Rangoli is mandatory on all these auspicious days, so first thing in the morning I got on this job and it turned out nice.
After this then I got on to doing some flower decorations, again here I reused some of the artificial flowers that I already had and it turned out to be very attractive.
These artificial flower garlands I used up for the decor.
Look at this, it's come out so pretty.
Here in Muscat flowers are very expensive, not many flowers grow here because of the weather, and most of it is imported from India and other countries. In India what I would purchase in 100 Rupees the same I will have to pay here 10 times more which is 1000 Rupees. I do buy some flowers for the essential ceremonies and the rest of it for decor work I use these kind of artificial flowers. They are economical and can be reused as many times you want.
After this was time to set up the table before the priest arrived to do the pooja. That's a circle made of 9 different types of grains, it's considered to be auspicious and represents abundance in the house.
Almost everything is set now.
When we do these rituals it's all about our emotions and feelings that flow in to it. Everyone has their own way of doing it and there is no right or wrong about it. With what sentiments we do is what matters the most. For me I prefer to do it all by myself as much as possible because that's what matters most to me.
