I wrote a book!

Hey Gang!

I've been away a decent amount lately, but I'm back with some good news. I wrote a book!

And thanks to @crimsonclad, I was able to wear some fancy HIVE merch for the ol' author photo!

For members of the Worldbuilding community, some of these prompts will look familiar, with slight variations to make them more book-appropriate as I have been writing the daily prompts in tandem with this for a while.

Currently, it's available in most countries via Amazon:
https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B0CM289B9N?ref_=pe_3052080_397514860

You should be able to switch regions and find it in the majority of places that have Amazon.

At the moment it's just this physical copy, but I'm working on creating an ebook version as well that I hope to complete later this week and once that's wrapped up... I'll be giving an ebook copy away sometime in November. So if you want to get a nicely formatted list of prompts for free, hang around for an upcoming post about that.

This was a huge goal of mine, and I'm absolutely overjoyed to be able to hold something in my hands that I wrote. I even left a little link back to my @worldbuilder account in the book, which will actually be clickable for the ebook version - so hopefully if folks like the prompts enough they'll come over and snag some daily(ish, cuz life) prompts here!

So... what's next now that I've done a book? Well, immediate future is the ebook version I already mentioned. Longer term, I'll be writing/adapting my WorldbuildingWednesday posts into a more formal worldbuilding guide, and alongside that will be some other fun things that I'll talk more about in the upcoming days.

I'll be writing a few posts adjacent to the book release topic here in the coming days as I thought it may be valuable for others to hear about my process, my experience self-publishing through KDP, looking at how this first week goes, and discussing future projects.

For now though, I mostly just wanted to be excited about my book being available to purchase! So, if you're interested in that... go and snag it! I'd be pretty overjoyed to see/hear about what my fellow Hive community members think of it.

Congrats on the book release. Always a sweet moment. And looking good in that Hive gear too!

Thank you! It's been a really cool day haha. And yeah, the Hive gear is my daily hat/hoodie now - it's SO nice! Very high quality and super warm (which is nice for late fall/early winter in Canada)!

Congratulations on your first child. It is always exciting. I will be watching for updates to learn about the process.

Thanks for sharing!

Thanks! I have two little ones now! (5 and almost-3) They keep me plenty busy, but still leave enough time to sneak in little goals like writing a book haha.

Oh... 🤪😂 It seemed from the excitement that it was the first one. Then even better. More congratulations!!!

Wow. Congrats. !PIZZA

Thank you!

Congratulations, man. This is huge. I hope your book sells thousands! I am very curious about what you went through in this process and I look forward to your future posts.

Thanks buddy! My one complaint is that KDP doesn't do live updates for stats. I won't have any idea how many sell today until at LEAST tomorrow. It's pretty niche subject matter but I hope a few folks grab it and like it and use it to create something really cool. That'd be just the absolute best!

I'm very excited to talk more about the process. There were little things along the way that I didn't expect or think about when I first set out on the journey to self-publishing, and I hope my experience may make someone else's journey into the space even easier!

I'm sure your guides will be very helpful man. Experience is more than everything

Congratulations ! I can only imagine how much work it was to get it all together.

I'll let you know what I think as soon as the copy I've just bought arrives 😁

Also, are KDP a print-on-demand service ? If they are, I'll be interested to see what their quality is like. I've got a little idea from a work perspective involving PoD that I'm considering 😉

Thank you! It is Print-on-Demand, yeah. I will say the author proof copies I ordered to see how things printed and looked were really nice. Better than I expected for sure! I don't have much control over the paper type/quality or like... what inks they use, but it feels good to flip through so it's the right weight for a book and the cover is VERY crisp and vibrant.

Huge congratulations for this amazing achievement 🤩🥳

!ALIVE

Thank you! It was a ton of fun!

@oblivioncubed! You Are Alive so I just staked 0.1 $ALIVE to your account on behalf of @ fantagira. (1/10)

The tip has been paid for by the We Are Alive Tribe through the earnings on @alive.chat, feel free to swing by our daily chat any time you want, plus you can win Hive Power (2x 50 HP) and Alive Power (2x 500 AP) delegations (4 weeks), and Ecency Points (4x 50 EP), in our chat every day.

This is sick man! Congratulations!

I'm going to pick this up, I love seeing this, and the fact that you were able to wear some Hive merch in the photo is unreal, it's a nice bit of advertisement for it.

Also, the cover of it looks sick!

Hearing about the whole process of publishing this will be amazing, and should give some valuable insight into the whole process.

!PIMP

You must be killin' it out here!
@killerwot just slapped you with 1.000 PIMP, @oblivioncubed.
You earned 1.000 PIMP for the strong hand.
They're getting a workout and slapped 1/1 possible people today.

Thanks buddy! It was a pretty fun experience. The cover I contracted an artist for on the good ol' gig-site Fiverr - but I'll talk more about that (and the cost to do so) in my next post, which I'll hopefully have up midway through next week. I wanted a solid week's worth of data from the KDP dashboard, so that means waiting for Monday or Tuesday before discussing it in depth.

This is awesome! Well done!
