Arabeth
At a glance:
- Strong military, and strong navy
- Foremost spies and assassins in the continent
- Home of the most famous Bardic college
- Leadership relies on infighting to keep lesser nobility from turning on them and promote a cut-throat culture among the nobility (which is divided into Houses)
- A real-life comparison would be the way Dune’s planetary lords are played off one another by the Emperor in that series.
Great Player background location for:
- Rogues, Thieves, Assassins, Pirates, Warlocks
- Any background where noble caste is important, or, where deception/street-rat life is important
Rulers: The Layora Royal Family
Major Mercenary Groups:

Jallan Mercenaries
Prior/Current Conflicts:
One of the instigators of the West-march War (Historical event; 2915 EF - 2981 EF)
The Blade Wars (Civil war 243 LF - 245 LF)
Arabeth is currently ruled by Kaman Layora, a powerful Warlock, skilled swordsman, and competent tactician.
Arabeth is a fiercely political and militaristic nation. Powerful noble families jockey for position and approval, which prompts in-fighting among the nobility, while commoners looking to move up within the Kingdom eye positions of power and import or glory through military service and excellence. For a commoner, the only way to join the nobility is to either marry into an existing lineage, or to do something that catches the eye and favor of the King.
There are currently 7 Duchies within Arabeth, with various further divisions within each of those. The island stronghold of Quom is the seat of the King, having been raised on that island, and the island of Lashan is also outside of a Duke's reach as it is technically part of the King's own lands, but is functionally run by the mages that guide the Great School on the island.
The remaining sections of Arabeth are controlled by the following noble families:
Hagal - Base: (49) Xas
Einreng - Base: (2) Selniche
Conirro - Base: (52) Vendaval
Oboro - Base: (9) Yimn
Za'Eca - Base: (30) Porset
Karhenon - Base: (45) Redan
Tareides - Base: (37) Spari
Each family oversees their Dutchy from one of the 7 mainland major cities, listed above as their Base location with Map ID and City Name.
They can (and regularly do) manage the nobility below them with minimal direct influence from the King. So long as they're keeping their Duchies well run and are capable of meeting the needs of the Kingdom, they are left to their own scheming and political maneuvering, and are free to appoint new Barons and lesser ranked nobility as they see fit.
Until next time, happy Worldbuilding my friends.
