Today began on a good note for me. There was no dark cloud in the sky, the sun shone in all its glory and all seemed to be aligned. I prepared for work and things went on as usual at work place. I thought that this day would roll smoothly but I thought wrong.
It so happened that after the close of work, a friend of mine called and asked me to accompany her to see a sick colleague. After checking my schedule, I gave her an affirmative reply. She sent me the address and we both agreed to meet at a junction close to the said address. I boarded a bus to the address and met my friend who was patiently waiting for me at the junction.
I saw a fruit stall and opted to buy some fruits for the one who was sick as a sign of goodwill. After that, I and my friend went ahead to the person's house. On arrival, we were warmly welcomed by the family of the sick person and we were taken to her room to see her. I thought it was just malaria fever or the flu but what I met was more shocking to me that till now, I can't seem to grasp the totality of it.
The sick lady was lying down on the bed and muttering incoherent words. She could barely recognize my friend who was closer to her at work. She would turn her face to stare at us and then begin to scream incoherently. Believe me, I was confused and that was when I began to question my friend about the real situation on ground cos this was no ordinary sickness.
My friend said that was how they all saw it too when it started at work the previous week. She mentioned that this lady would sit down for hours and stare into space and when she comes to herself, she would start chanting some incoherent words. Even when she was asked some questions, she would answer in gibberish. A colleague advised that she be taken home to rest and since last week, she was yet to report to work, hence my friends desire to visit her.
From other findings, I discovered that this sick lady usually bottled up her pains, stress and worries. She had no confidant nor did she have a shoulder to lean on. She kept all the hurt and pains inside and now it's telling on her mental health. Her family is even contemplating taking her to psychiatric hospital but waiting for some cash. I really felt for the lady as I witnessed her manifestation with my own eyes.
As we left the house, I began to ponder on some deep things. The world is full of troubles and living is becoming tedious. So many people have lost a reason to smile but I still believe in hope and in a better day. If you feel overwhelmed by any issue, please find a brother or sister to lean on because we all need somebody to unburden to and lighten the weights in our hearts. You can also find a form.of outlet for the anxiety by praying, watching funny reels that would make you forget your sorrows or even simply sleeping it off.
I leave you with these songs for your enjoyment. I hope it speaks to you as it did to me.
