Hello everyone!
It’s incredible how quickly this year has flown by, and now we’re in the very last month of the year. December has been packed with amazing Afrobeat releases, and I’ve been vibing to quite a few of them. Today, I’d love to share my top three Afrobeat songs of the month.
The first song on my list is “Ten Times” by Young John. If you’re familiar with Young John, you’ll know he’s not just an artist but started off as a producer, who was creating hits for other artists. Seeing him transition into singing and just been able to truly discover his own purpose has been inspiring. “Ten Times” is a heartfelt song where Young John expresses himself to his lover. The song reflects his acknowledgment of past mistakes and his desire for forgiveness. Even though the lyrics might not carry a heavy or deep message, they are relatable and straightforward, which makes the song enjoyable. What really stands out for me, though, is the beat. It’s so catchy that after listening to it just once, I couldn’t stop putting it on replay. It’s actually one of those songs that gets stuck in your head, not because of complex storytelling, but because the production and melody are so addictive.
Next up is “Joy Is Coming” by Fido, a relatively new artist who has gained massive recognition this year. Fido has proven to be an outstanding talent in the Afrobeat industry, and this song solidifies his position as an artist to definitely watch out for next year. “Joy Is Coming” is my personal anthem right now because its message aligns so perfectly with my mindset. It’s a song filled with hope and optimism, reminding me that no matter how tough life gets, there’s always light at the end of the tunnel. It motivates me to keep striving for the goals i have set for myself because I truly believe joy is on its way. The lyrics are meaningful and uplifting, which is why they resonate so deeply with me. And let’s not forget the beat—Fido’s choice of instrumentals is phenomenal. The rhythm is infectious, and every time I listen to it, I feel energized and positive.
Lastly, we have “Who Does That” by Fola featuring Bella Shmurda. This collaboration has been the talk of TikTok for weeks, with snippets of the song being used in several videos even before its official release. The anticipation built up so much that I couldn’t wait to hear the full version, and let me tell you, it did not disappoint. Fola, who was recently by Bella Shmurda, absolutely killed it on this track. His delivery was smooth, and the way he flowed with the beat was remarkable. Then there’s Bella Shmurda, who needs no introduction. His verse was nothing short of exceptional, and it blended effortlessly well with Fola’s vibe while adding his own unique flair to the song. The lyrics, melody, and beat all come together beautifully, making it a standout track for me. The chemistry between Fola and Bella was evident, and it’s clear they put a lot of effort into making this song a hit.
All in all, these three songs—“Ten Times” by Young John, “Joy Is Coming” by Fido, and “Who Does That” by Fola featuring Bella Shmurda—have been on repeat for me this December. Each of them brings something unique to the table, from relatable lyrics and catchy beats to uplifting messages and standout collaborations. Afrobeat has actually been evolving, and i am actually so excited to see what the next year holds for these artists and the genre as a whole. Let me know if you’ve listened to any of these songs or if you have other favorites from this month—I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Thanks for reading.
