Greetings!
Making a summary of my year, one of the longest visuals I keyed myself into is the zombie world. I found myself deeply delved and soaked into the zombie genre, particularly from The Walking Dead universe. Not a single day has passed without me encountering something zombie-related on social media, and it's become something I can't go a day without. Even on my YouTube, it's zombie related things that greet me whenever I login. So, in this write-up, I decided to highlight a song that feels so relatable to this genre and tie it to our world, exploring a lot of "what ifs?"
Okay, what if zombies became a reality? Are we sure we could survive it as we've seen in the movies, given how deadly they are portrayed?
Joeboy's Zombie, which was released some months ago, imagines a scenario where zombies invade the real world. This song has sparked my imagination endlessly.
In the music's storyline, Joeboy and his girlfriend went to a cinema to watch a zombie movie, a particularly terrifying one. Throughout the movie, his girlfriend was completely freaked out, and at one point, she couldn't take it anymore and stormed out of the hall. Joeboy followed her, trying to calm her down, assuring her that it was just a movie. However, the girl refused to return and decided to leave. Joeboy followed, and they both headed home.
On their way back, their car broke down on a deserted road at night. While Joeboy was troubleshooting the car repairs, zombies—just like the ones in the movie—emerged from the shadows. Both Joeboy and his girlfriend were paralyzed with fear. Now, guess what Joeboy did?
This is where the real meaning of the music comes alive: Joeboy turned himself into a "zombie" to protect his girlfriend. How did he do that? He painted himself with blood and began walking like a zombie to blend in and safely lead them past the horde.
I found this moment so fascinating because it showed that the director of the music visualizer had definitely watched a lot of zombie films.
Camouflaging as a zombie is a classic survival tactic often depicted in such movies. However, in reality, this trick wouldn't work on all zombies—some are portrayed as having human-like intelligence and could easily detect such deception.
With how immersed I’ve been in zombie content this year, I’m quite confident I’d survive if a zombie outbreak were to happen in the real world. The only challenge I foresee is not necessarily the zombies but other humans. As seen in many zombie movies and series, the biggest conflicts often arise from human battles rather than the undead themselves.
I stumbled upon Joeboy’s Zombie recently, and after watching it, I immediately added it to my playlist this morning. Unfortunately, there isn’t a complete official video for the song yet—just the drama segment and the visualizer. It’s been four months since its release, and I doubt they’ll ever make a full-length official video for it. Still, the current visuals are impactful and align perfectly with the theme of the song.
So, here’s my question for you:
- Could you survive a zombie world if it became a reality today?
- Do you have any strategies for maneuvering through or fighting off the undead? Bear in mind, not all zombies can be defeated with a simple punch!
Thanks for reading.
