Throwback Thursday: The days of Durella.

Greetings!

Before taking my phone to type this article, I smiled, reflecting on a little conversation I had with @meyateingi in one of her music posts where she mentioned that music has a way of working on us, which I agreed with, but I went on to tell her that such can barely influence me because I listen to songs in a very unique and crazy way. Sometimes I go for the lyrics, and sometimes I just want to dance to the rhythm and beat of the song. And sometimes, even if it's just a cough by my favorite singer as the lyrics, I will still enjoy it. She went on to drop an article-like reply, which I saw from a notification, and it's full of "sermons" trying to educate me on music. My head hasn't been at home for such sermon, so the reply is yet to be attended to...I'm gathering more facts

I'm sure it's not just me who listens to songs solely for the beat and rhythm. Yes, it can be only me!🥱

When I found this song on YouTube that I wanted to share, I smiled because I only got to know the lyrics today after doing some research about it. Before now, since its release, I had no concern with the lyrics or the message the song was expressing. All I was and still am interested in is the beat, coupled with how excellently Durella crafted the rhymes with his words.

MY LIFE by Durella is throwback song released in 2010, and while writing this, I kept wishing that someone who knew the song back then would come and read it and give me a nostalgic reply. I wish Balikis95(I don't want to tag) would come and read this.

Okay, check out the song. Isn't it entertaining, even though it's hard to catch the words due to how fast the artist is?

First of all, the beat was the banger of the song, and I wish this kind of song had come out in this era of social media because it didn't get much audience back then. It sucks to see such songs being hidden in a corner. The beat is what will bring out the youthfulness in you, even if you're old, and you wouldn't know when you'll start dancing. The way he crafted the words in rhyme with the beat is so original and unique. It seems like a rap, but no, Durella is a wordsmith when it comes to singing, and what he did in the track was just him being himself.

The hook drove me crazy, and I was like, "Where did this man get this idea?" I'm referring to this part:

🎶"Doing now am into entertainment. Enemies now rehabilitated
We got Reconfigurated it was a street whether one Understatement
You know what I do Now am into entertainment let's go"

Well, the wordings here didn't really bring out a meaning but the way he hooked it at that spot was the magic.

What a craft!

The lyrics:
Just like I said, I didn't know about the lyrics until I did a Google search before writing this. All this while, I've been enjoying just the beat and rhythm, and I've been very entertained by that, not caring about the lyrics.
Well, the lyrics are all about seeking to get off the reach of one's enemies, hence the chorus, "enemies let me live my life."

Thanks for reading.

So I intentionally didn't mention D'banj to see if anyone would bring it up and you did.
You didn't just stop there, you went on to mention King of the Zanga.
