¡Paz y Bien!

English Version

As I explained in a recent post, I recently discovered the music of Yann Tiersen and was amazed. I found his brief style, minimalist and at the same time emotional, captivating. I think his music communicates emotions and moods very effectively. Interpreting his works is entering a bubble from which one does not want to leave.

As a composer I feel very identified with his way of composing, I connect with the rhythmic and melodic simplicity of his works, because it always seems like a challenge to make a composition deep and communicative starting only from simple ideas. In my opinion Yann Tiersen achieves this successfully.

The work that led Tiersen to be known worldwide was the composition of the soundtrack of the French film The Fabulous Destiny of Amélie Poulain, but in this regard, Eric Satie of At this time, he declared the following for the Semana portal in November 2016:

"It is more accurate to say that my music has been used in films, since I have only composed an original soundtrack for the fiction film 'Good Bye Lenin', and an original soundtrack for the documentary 'Tabarly', about a sailor and French sailor. The rest have been tracks and music taken from my previous works." Source

And later in the interview he indicated that the music used in the film Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain was composed 6 years before its filming, so his music had nothing to do with the film.

Anyway, despite everything he expressed in that interview, there are many who agree that his music was somehow predestined to be the iconic soundtrack of Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain.

But in this post I have come to share with you not a piece of music used for the film Le Fabuleux destin d'Amélie Poulain, but a small work belonging to the soundtrack composed for Good Bye Lenin!, "Coma". This work, which is completely in line with the plot of the film, seems to stop time and at the same time impregnate everything with a strange uncertainty.

To conclude, I want to express that I am currently exploring the work of maestro Yann Tiersen and I hope to be able to return soon with more of his compositions. And before saying goodbye I want to ask you if you liked this publication and how this piece made you feel.

Peace and good!

That's a very nice piece you shared/played. You name this simple, I call it minimalistic. Am not a musician of any kind, but I believe that creating minimalistic music, that goes straight to out hearts, is mighty difficult. It's not just the rhythm (if we can speak about rhythm in this case), but also the way its played. With soft and hard keystrokes and all. I don't think it is simple at all, I think it is mighty hard to get it right.

Am such a goof for minimalistic music. The 'simpler' it sounds (the more minimalistic it is), the more I usually like the music. That said, must be a great composition and performance of such, otherwise, it is quickly BIN material 😉 The latter isn't the case for the piece you brought us here though. Very nice one!

I agree with you @edje, it is not enough to compose well, if it is not interpreted well the result will not be the best possible. Thanks for stopping by, I'm glad you like minimalist art. For me, the minimalist creator is like a poet or a philosopher who is capable of saying a lot with very few words. In the minimalist world, less is more. Peace and good!

"less is more" perrrrfect 🙂
