Today the responsibilities of being a woman hit me one more time as I eavesdrop on two women who were having a quiet discussion just outside of my home in front of the sit out. One was a smart looking elderly woman fair in complexion while the other was a beautiful young woman full of life. When I looked closely through the window I was surprised to find out the elderly woman is my mom and the beautiful young maiden sitter beside her is my sister.
I fact she is my cousin sister who lives just the next building after ours.
As I listened closely, I heard my mom telling her the same story she had told me more than a thousand times. It was the story of her early days in marriage with my father. The same old story that teaches me no other thing but the importance of exercising patience and the lesson of endurance and forgiveness.
Dad was a Civil servant when he got married to my mom and just after their marriage as mum became pregnant, Dad broke the news of his admission in school to obtain a degree certificate which will help increase his level and chances of earning a bigger salary in bigger office.
Mom wasn't so happy about it though it was a good news but she'll have to be living alone for a while with no assistannce of any sort from her husband. When dad left for his degree program. Things weren't easy for mum at all. Most times, there won't be a medium to communicate with my dad as mobile phones hasn't been much available then and was costly to get one. Sometimes she would ran out of money to take care of her other needs due to her medical checkups and to eat her desired food would be a problem because some women tend to crave for a different kind of food when pregnant.
To cut the long story short, mom didn't quit in her struggle to make ends meet believing in her husband though it weren't easy for her. According to her, dad came home one day and she was so relieved and happy but was not fully happy because dad came home with nothing and no money to offer to his dear wife. Mom said in those days things were so difficult, she cried and back then before I was born they didn't have a house of their own and not even dreaming of having one. There was no car and during the time she entered labor she was forced to stop her small business and even had to sell some of her working equipments to be able to meet up with family demands.
When dad finished his school program things didn't just automatically change. There was still no money, In fact its as though every valuable property in the house have been sold and converted cash to aid in the school program.
It was as though it's just the beginning of struggles but as God may have it, mom said, after I was born and still little and not so perfect in speech. One day I woke up from my little bed when came to where they were sitting and told my dad that he will buy a car. My dad claimed it by saying amen and she burst into laughter and said, how can someone who doesn't even feed well think of being a king. As she made that statement dad asked her if it is a bad thing if good things come our way and mom didn't still agree that buying a car at that point in time was possible.
The week pass, in the following week one of my dad's friends visited our home, during his time of discussing with my dad he told my dad one of his relatives wants to sell their car that the woman has seriously been looking for a buyer and has not place the car at high price. So my dad said he's interested and mom interrupted him by repeating her previous statement in front of Dad's friend. As my dad's friend was about leaving he told dad he should first of all reason with his wife then left. Dad later talked to mum and they agreed, later he called his friend back within the upper week to come and lead him to see the car. They later went, he discussed with this friend to help him bring down the price when he meets his relative who wants to sell the car.

When they got there his friend did as he told him. The seller used the the influence of her relative to reduce the selling price of the car, yet dad didn't even have that amount of money. He later started finding a means of raising money but didn't see. Lastly it was one of my moms relative who somehow heard the story of my dad's interest in a particular car. The man met my dad one day and said he wanted to see our new car and my dad said he has seen the car and it's a nice one but no money to pay. Immediately my uncle brought out a pen and paper and wrote a cheque for dad that covered the money and more. He then told my dad to hurry up and go bring our car home, mom said that was the way he said it. This was how my dad had his first car, later as things got better, he paid back the money and brought two other cars and built our new home.
Now also I and my brother are university graduates. It's really good to be patience in life because no condition is permanent.
