Dear friends,
Today I`m going to tell you about a piece of music I recorded after my visit to Tsarevets. What is Tsarevets?
Tsarevets is a medieval fortress located on a hill with the same name in Veliko Tarnovo in northern Bulgaria.
It served as the Second Bulgarian Empire's primary fortress and strongest bulwark between 1185 and 1393, housing the royal and the patriarchal palaces.
The name comes from “Tsar” /Emperor/ so it means “the Tsar`s catsle”.
Tsarevets today is a popular tourist attraction.
On the top of the hill is the patriarchate, a complex with an area of about 3,000 square metres (32,000 sq ft). The Cathedral of the Ascension of the Lord, built on the remains of a late Roman basilica, was reconstructed in 1981 and painted in 1985.
The frescoes inside, painted in a striking modernist style rather than in the style of traditional Orthodox frescoes, depict conventional Christian subjects as well as glorious and tragic moments of the Second Bulgarian Empire.
I composed a musical piece named THE SOUL OF TSAREVETS and made a video for it myself.
I used flutes, strings, and voices trying to recreate the medieval atmosphere.
Hope you like it, let me know if you do.
