Thank God ItΒ΄s #NinetiesFriday

After taking a good look at all the changes since 1990 during my last three posts, which by the way were remarkable few itΒ΄s time for one of the most important things from my Nineties.

What was almost as important as Mariuhana in my Nineties?

TV Shows!

I probably did not get a VCR till 1996 before that year I had to be home to watch the episodes in real-time.

Some of the series I loved too watch ended by that time and to be honest one of the things I do not miss about the 90s is the VCR and the thing I love about the now is Netflix, or rather streaming because Apple TV is lots better than NetNotFlix.

I must have missed so many episodes and paying for the DVDs went beyond my budget, still I think I saw most and I will try to put these series in my order starting with the 9 best series.

You all are gonna hate me for putting these on the 9th place. But I was just never taken by the Friends virus or Seinfeld syndrome.

But what was the best?

Seinfeld vs Friends

I have my opinion but let's see what the experts say yada yada yada.

I loved how both were not inclusive but:

Well yes, I admit I liked Seinfeld so much better, it was just resonated more...and I think it was a bit more intelligent than just Friends.

I mean if Smelly Cat is the peak of your success.

VS Double Dipping

I don't dip that way, this is a genius move I remember 30 years after the dip and it even beats a Smelly Cat.

1994 – 1998 Babylon 5

What do you get when you have Star Trek meet Days of Our Lives, you get a bastard called Babylon 5:

I had some issues with the fact that certain storylines took ages to complete and that watching a single episode did not make sense. But then when this series ran on Saturday morning...well at the time I woke up after partying on Friday it became the after-party.

#7

1984 – 1992 Who is the Boss

That intro song was so sweet....and so was Alysa. I loved Tony, but I really hoped to meet Alysa.

And while we are at it...my Gran did not fall a lot short to being a Mona back then:

At Number 9 no, 0 no, 2 no, 1 no, but 6

1990 – 2000 Beverly Hills 90210

I guess this list would not be complete without these nerds, the soundtrack to this series btw sucked big time I have seen it so often in discount racks that i still remember what it looked like.

But the theme song was pretty okay;

Back in the Episode I did on Celebrity Crushes, I mentioned that I did have one on Brenda.... and I hoped to be here James Dean lookalike one day.

But Laverne wasnΒ΄t bad herself.

Top Five

Now itΒ΄s getting difficult picking a top 5 took a while, but this next one should really be in there.

#5

1987 – 1994 Star Trek Next Generation

Okay Next Gen is definitely a Nineties Gem, but the magic really happened when they introduced this guy:

Q was a Genius, but I guess he knew that already... and he left us with some amazing Life Lessons.

#4

1995 – 2006 Baantjer

I will keep it short on this one as non of you probably know this series, unless you are Dutch and Old.

This was the other after-party series I watched on my first VCR on Saturday, or Friday at 5 AM after coming home.

All dead bodies were famous people and they all gave their lives for playing the body in this series as it was the best watched Dutch series in like the nineties. But that intro song....that still is so damn good and that guy Toots...he was kinda famous.

Being slightly drunk or hungover, that tune always gave me Goosebumps.

#3

1988 – 1993 The Wonder Years

Gotta watch this clip, really the music, the words, and I am sure that at the end if you are a True #90SKid you to will look back with wonder and feel bad that kids nowadays do no longer explore the suburbs and streets they grow up on.

Talking about freaking Goosebumps or me becoming emotional at my old age.

#2

1990 – 1991 Twin Peaks

Talking about a whole different kind of Goosebumps, I was just old enough to watch this back then and I must admit I did not get everything....but Damn I never forget Fire Walk With Me and that sickening good theme song:

That song hit the top 10 in almost every country, and I did not mind for a minute. Still one of the best TV themes ever.

If I think Back I see red...

And that still seems so normal...but wait there was more:

Be My #1

1993 – 2002 X Files

Of course, if it was not in the list I would not have been alive in the Nineties and this guy might not have inspired me to quit smoking.

OMG we are no longer Calling The Guy Cancerman???
Seriously????

That name was better than any warning on a package of cigarettes and now we are gonna make smoking great again.

Just FYI that guy was called Cancerman all day long in the Nineties.

And this was not only the best series it had the best soundtrack, and Theme Song:

Just look up Songs in the Key of X or click the link.

What is it with Goosebumps today?

If you though Peaky Fookin Blinders was the first to discover Mr Cave forget it, I knew his Red Right Hand from X Files:

And those tunes in the Key of X also introduced me to the best Sheryl crow song ever:

But above all, it was just an amazing series that shaped my brain like no other.

Yes, I also watched the Movie and the new series, and I wish there was so much more. This is quite possibly my favorite series ever.

My dream Team

Thank goodness you made it till the end Pees, Love and I am out of here!

#NinetiesFriday was brought to you by My 90s Rant

NO PLEASE DO NOT DISNEY THAT SHOW

WTF do I do on #NinetiesFriday?
Well, don't do what I do because that would be copy/pasta!

But some ideas are music, movies, television, sports, or really anything Nineties related.

I assume movie, TV, or music topic reviews or talk will be most common, but you could also talk about a sports memory or something else.

Think the Pop Culture of the times, but it would be great to hear about little known and interesting bands or entertainment items. Don’t forget to use tag #NinetiesFriday

@geneeverett will give 3 basic income units to a winning random post every week that uses the #NinetiesFriday tag. Also @thebighigg has jumped in to match for 6 total weekly prizes! If anyone else wants to sponsor with 1 unit let me know or just send it if you don’t wanna commit to weekly πŸ‘

Cancerman? Really? Did I just miss that? I was a huge x-files fan. In my neck of the woods, we always called him the cigarette smoking man. I wonder if it was a regional thing.

Same here. It was always the smoking man. CancerMan sounds like some guy who tried to get Incredible Hulk on powers but messed up the ratio and got cancer ☹️

The XFiles and TNG were definitely top shows of the 90s. I was not a big fan of Friends when it first ran or Seinfeld so much,.but was out socialising much more back then! Both are great though and still watchable today imo. Thanks for the trip back to the 90s.

I did not mind friends but it just missed that little punch that I got from Seinfeld TNG maybe should be a bit higher on my list it would be competing with The Wonder Years but that show gave me goosebumps so often. Thanks for the pick !PIMP

Nice work! Seinfeld to the X-Files and lots of awesome shows in-between! I like Seinfeld more as well, not doubt about it. The first appearance of Q was pretty cool and Homer! Twin Peaks is another classic that just hasn't been equaled, it was a cool show. Awesome work!

What about Friends? Wasn’t that too in the 90s?

Sure was the first part of the post was all about having to choose between Seinfeld and Friends for the #9 position .... for me Friends lost that battle but that of course is just personal taste

Ah ok, just scrolled through and didn’t see that. Only the Seinfeld part.

!LOLZ I thought so happens to me....frequently to much to do and to little time

I used to be addicted to the hokey-pokey
but then I turned myself around.

I loved the X-Files, other great 90s show that I will put are The Fresh Prince of Bel-air specially after the great movies like independence day and men in black.

Other classic series from the 90s was, in living color, New York Undercover on the drama side. My wife and kids was another sitcom I loved as well as Martin.

In living color, that one totally slipped my mind but it definitely a great choice, yeah I guess with Seinfeld and Friends fighting for 9th position I am not too much into sitcoms, but Martin was fun. Thanks for dropping by I love to hear other people's favs after a post like this

Yeah I struggle with some shows as they started in the 90s but don't consider them 90s. Stargate or Babylon 5 for sci fi. 21 Jump street.

I used to be a kung fu fan and used to watch this show called Young Heroes of Shaolin. It was an 80s show in China but by the time it came to this side of the world it was already 91.

McGuyver was also a big action show for me which transition from 80s to 90s.

McGuyver & A Team were great growing up but for me those are def. 80s although I did not check wiki but if they spill over I consider them part of the 90s
