The Power Of Trying Again.

Trying again is an inherent part of the human experience. We face setbacks, failures and disappointments but our ability to bounce back and try anew is what defines us. This is what I like to call a testament of our resilience, determination and growth as a human.

However, despite our innate capacity for resilience, we often struggle to try again. Fear of failure, self-doubt, discouragement and even low self-esteem can hold us back at times. This could be utterly overwhelming sometimes and it can even proceed to manifest as a feeling of being stuck or uncertain.

One particular quote I like so much is by Thomas Edison and it goes thus, “I have not failed. I've just found 10,000 ways that won't work.” This quote always leaves me with the mindset that failure is only what we make it. If we choose to see failure as something very bad, that is exactly what it would be. Every failure brings us closer to success, teaching us valuable lessons and refining our approach.

Before now, I viewed failure as something very terrible. Why would I fail when I could work extra hard to succeed instead? I harboured this mindset till a friend narrated two scenarios for me. One was of a woman who succeeded the first year she started her business and the second was of another business woman who it took about two to three years before she could succeed. The friend said that the second business woman probably gathered enough experience during her years of striving and she also knows firsthand what failure feels like. The simple fact remains that some people can work extremely hard and still fail.

Aside from growth and learning, confidence boosting is yet another perk of trying again. A person trying out something for the first time is filled with uncertainty; “what if something goes wrong?” they may ask. But those who have traded that path before would know of the possible things that may go wrong and as such, they tend to tackle the obstacle with a degree of confidence.

Reframing failure, breaking goals into smaller steps, seeking support when necessary and celebrating my little wins are a few strategies I use when faced with the option of trying again. These few steps help set me on track and still steer me in the right direction during the course of the second lap.

The song “Try Again” by Aaliyah released on the 21st of March, 2000, talks a lot about trying again. The song demonstrates how resilient humans can be whenever they want to and this alone can be considered a great trait. Growing up, this was one of my many favourite songs alongside many other similar songs.

Trying again is not just a necessity, it's a superpower. By embracing this mindset, we unlock our full potential, cultivate resilience and subsequently inspire others to do the same. So like Aaliyah says, dust yourself off and try again for your success awaits.

Failure is essential for growth, it’s what helps us come back stronger. If we never fail, how can we learn? Thomas Edison had it right. And I always remember Michael Jordan’s words: "I've missed more than 9,000 shots in my career. I've lost almost 300 games. 26 times, I've been trusted to take the game-winning shot and missed. I've failed over and over and over again in my life. And that is why I succeed." great post 👍

If we never fail, how can we learn?

I agree because failure is really inevitable. At some point in life we may take a wrong turn unexpectedly, leading to the inevitable.

The quote by Michael Jordan is really inspiring. Thank you for sharing ✨
