Never in the history of humanity have so many opinions probably floated on so many topics at the same time, and all of that is possible thanks to social media. My first experience with social media was hi5, but I quit Facebook a long time ago, although I had used it for many years before doing that.
I try to avoid getting into contrary talks on twitter (unlike @edicted 😀), but I can clearly see engagement farming where it exists. There's this guy in the crypto community called MMCrypto who seems to have made a lot of money in crypto in 2017 despite being just a taxi driver.
He's moved to Dubai and managed to amass millions of followers on both YouTube and Twitter, but I am not one of them, and I have always tried to position myself outside of the herd mentality. No matter the branch, wherever there's a big community, there has to be a lot of shit going on.
A couple of days ago he posted a tweet (asking his followers to bookmark it) where he was making a prediction... And according to his so-called prediction, we will see a huge crash in the markets in the first half of 2025, we will enter a depression period, and we will probably even witness civil wars going on.
Well, my first thought about that was: how the fuck would you know this is going to happen? These are black swan types of events, and plebs don't get to predict them... But plebs like him, he's still a pleb IMO, are throwing this type of shit at their followers for the sake of engagement farming.
While they pose as being ultra-rich, I highly doubt that. Otherwise, they wouldn't care that much about the social media side of their business, but something tells me they do care a lot about what they earn on social media. Otherwise, they wouldn't be so involved.
The problem is that there are quite a few who take for granted what these lunatics are saying. I have a friend who plans on dumping all of his crypto holdings by March 2025, and he's a follower of this MMCrypto guy. I wouldn't do that before I see mass euphoria in the market. We haven't had that yet.
Oh, and another account caught my attention this morning saying: "DJI experiences its longest losing streak since 1974..." Well, what about the run-up, mate? After rallying so hard in 2024, wouldn't you expect it to correct at some point and do that hard?
It's funny how these bozos get so much attention on social media and how many accounts that are quite level-headed and very good at trading and investing don't get the coverage. I guess all of this happens because the masses are not that smart to separate valuable information from FOMO and FUD. I guess social media was created for the masses after all...
I wouldn't advise anyone to isolate from social media and live under a rock, but I would clearly stay away from folks who are clearly into engagement farming. When you see them having those "open mouth shocked face" thumbnails on their posts, you should know not much valuable information can be gotten from such accounts.
High intellect people are not loud. Don't forget about that...
Thanks for your attention,
Adrian
