Ragtime and Spaghetti Westerns

Greetings and salutations Hivers. Today let's go into another Three Tune Tuesday post.

As always, thanks to @ablaze for making this series. Lots of people participate in it! Follow the tags to find a ton of good music recommendation.

So I was going to go with a more late 90s playlist today to mimic one I recently made for my kids, but then I went to youtube and the algorithm showed me three ones songs that I just had to go with.

For those that missed it, for the past year I've attempted to use the YouTube algorithm to my advantage. I split off every one of my interests into its own channel and try to only watch that topic on the specific channel I've made for it. So I, for example, always switch to my sports channel before watching a baseball video, or I switch to my finance channel before watching anyone talk charts and try to convince me they know what they are talking about, and so on. And of course I have a channel just for music. Dividing my interests into specific channels like this has resulted in much better recommendations from the algorithm. It no longer seems to get confused and offer me completely random suggestions like watch videos or ASMR doctor visits in German; it seems like when the viewing history is more tightly focuses, the algorithm works better.

Anyway, so I instantly saw three good ones when I went there today. Let's take a look!

David Bowie - Space Oddity (2019 Mix)

This is of course one of everyones' favorite songs. It's up there on most popular modern songs lists. Interestingly, it is one that my oldest son brought to me a few weeks ago, showing it off proudly as an "awesome song" that he had just discovered. I smiled and broke the news that I already discovered that one long long ago. He hadn't realized it was so old.

And now YouTube suggests this more recent mix of it to me! <conspiracymode>Hmmm....maybe Google was listening when my son played it for me recently</conspiracymode>

So anyway, great song. Let's all listen and enjoy!

Dave Wave - Tetris / Korobeiniki (ragtime version)

Last week I shared a ragtime version of some of the Mario themes from the old games. Well, now today I was suggested this ragtime version of another classic song. I'm sure I wasn't the only one reading this who wasted countless hours on the Gameboy version of this game, this song burning into my head. It converts very well to ragtime!

Postmodern Jukebox, ft. Effie Passero - I Was Made For Lovin' You [Kiss]

Oh man, this is something else. I've featured Postmodern Jukebox in the past. These guys always do interesting but completely crazy arrangements, and this is no exception. Imagine the Kiss song I Was Made For Lovin You, arranged as if Ennio Morricone composed it. The singer, Effie Passero, is pretty freaking good too; she has an amazing voice. See what you think.

So... what's your favorite?

I actually love them all, but the last one always makes me think of this interview I saw.

Haha that's hilarious. Equally hilarious is that they wore their makeup and outfits to a radio interview.

Yeah, I think it was Howard Stern though right, so are you that surprised? I've seen Gene on several interviews and he is quite an intelligent and thoughtful man despite his demon persona.

Bowie is my pick there, but he was awesome! Second on isn't bad, but the third one is great. She has a great voice, and the song is almost unrecognizable as a Kiss song. I thought the guitarists pick of a pink guitar was brave, but that may have been what they handed him.

You never fail to pick some great stuff for TTT!
