¡Hey!
To clear my mind a little of the events that have been happening in my life and I told in my previous post, I wanted to make this publication that had been in my head for a long time and I finally decided to carry it out.
Although it may sound silly, music sometimes becomes my refuge (I think I've mentioned it before), in many occasions there is nothing that can lift my spirits as music does and even more when it comes from a voice as spectacular as the protagonist of this post.
Today I want to make a top 4 of one of my favorite singers, Jessie Reyez.
I discovered Jessie in 2019 because of a collaboration she did with Calvin Harris that made me fall in love with her, what captivated me most about her was her unique voice, but I was also caught by the confidence she transmits, her style and her strange beauty (this is how I define it because many people tell me that they don't find her attractive, but well... beauty is relative and I think she has incredible features).
If I remember correctly Jessie is Canadian, but she is of Colombian descent and with this I can't help but get excited, because obviously I am proud of any Latino who has so much talent. Because of this, Jessie has a song or two in Spanish.
Hard To Love:
This song was the one with which I discovered Jessie Reyez and I had it on repeat for about a week, it is a collaboration she did with Calvin Harris for the album Funk Wav Bounces, Vol. 1 and the first thing that caught my attention was Jessie's voice, I do not know how to describe it, I just know that I love what she does with it and also I felt too identified with the lyrics of this song, I feel that describes me almost in its entirety, especially in the first verse when it says " don't like to talk, but I love to sing, I don't smoke, but I love to drink, I'm paranoid, I don't miss a thing, But I'm still nice, at least that's what I think, Fall in love, like I'm a freak, But then I pull out, and say I need freedom."
Apple Juice:
This song conveys to me how desperate we can become when we want to hold on to someone even though, if we think sensibly, both parties are being unhappy.
Figures:
I think this song is the best known and one of the most successful. Like most of her songs, it's about heartbreak, only, unlike other songs, I feel that this lyric is much more sincere, more real, or I don't know if it's the way Jessie interprets it, but it's also genius.
Mutual Friends:
I saved my favorite for last, it seems to me that this song is on Jessie's latest album, and although it's quite raw, to me it's beautiful, sincere and if you've been through a very stormy relationship you can understand her feelings perfectly.
But well guys until here my post, Jessie seems to me an amazing singer-songwriter and I feel she is underrated, so I wanted to introduce them to you and that you enjoy her voice as much as I do, it's funny because the order I chose to describe the songs, could easily be about how the feelings that cause a relationship that ends badly can evolve.
Reading a bit about her I found out that she has collaborated on songs for other artists like Dua Lipa and recently did a collaboration with Sam Smith called "Gimme" and I love it, plus she is going to be on Sam Smith's upcoming tour.
