@jasperdick and I have a gig coming up in two weeks in the beautiful town of Hermanus, just outside Cape Town. I am just as excited for the show as I am to get away with the family and spend some time with good friends! @zakludick and I will drive up with the kids at the end of the month, and everyone has been instructed to pack as little as possible, because of all the musical toys we'll be bringing along!
Including my shiny new mic stand which I intend to put to very good use for live shows and recording at home, even doing some narration!
We had a jamming session/ rehearsal on Saturday. This time things will be different. Normally we try to play as many originals as we can, but this time, we'll be covering many of our musical heroes and bringing their songs to life.
The top E string snapped on the red guitar, so I went to go and buy some new strings today.
It got me inspired to finish my project that I started when my dad passed away. It involved using some of the parts from his old broken guitar to fix @merenludick 's guitar, as well as putting on new strings. I think at the time I was overly emotional and really didn't do the best job, so my knots kept slipping and the guitar refused to stay in tune. It would have been simple to fix, but there was just too much going on, both in my heart and in other aspects of my life.
Today, I took the strings off and put them back on properly! Let's hope they stay on this time and Meren can play whenever he wants.
It also warms my heart to know that a part of my dad's love of music will live on through my children.
I've been in a bit of a dark place lately, but I seem to be coming out the other side as I try to get used to my new life, outside the corporate world. On Friday evening, I did something I hadn't done for ages and I played a bit and even had a nice glass or two of pinotage!
