Nothing spooky here ... but at near the mid-autumn point, there is no doubt that indeed, it is autumn, and soon, winter will arrive and the year will be over ... no jazz standard epitomizes the feelings of marvel at the beauty and the sadness of what must be left behind because it is over and done than "Autumn Leaves"!
Autumn leaves spreading their beauty over the gritty big city with some film noir vibes ... that's what this take on "Autumn Leaves" from the great Cannonball Adderley, Miles Davis, and their equally esteemed partners reminds me of ...
By contrast to the first take, this version with Chet Baker and the band has me thinking of laughing and dancing in bright sunshiny streets on a golden bright, brisk day with the autumn breezes, on my way to get something warm and spicy -- maybe my favorite chai -- at a favorite coffee shop!
But then again -- and a different song reminded me of this -- "Autumn Leaves" is a song about tenderly and gratefully though sadly remembering seasons passed and love lost ... and no one ever did that better than the unforgettable Nat King Cole!
And a bonus -- because this was too adorable -- and, @w74, this young man and his friends have some interesting jazz-classical fusions!
