INTRODUCTION
I have a weird music style, I love songs where the lyrics are powerful and meaningful yet sad, for whatever reason the sadder a song is the more i enjoy the lyric and musical experience. playing out the story being sung in my head and connecting to the music through shared experiences, as I'm sure all of us have experienced heartbreak.
I found these songs during a breakup with someone I truly loved and always will, and they’ve been closely guarded to me since. the feeling of listening to the songs I share today personally throws me back to that time with all those feelings swirling around as if it was yesterday. So many memories and emotions tied to a single song from a period in your life.
I'm sure many can relate, listening to a song from your childhood and feeling like a kid again and so on. 😅
Ben&Ben - Lifetime
I only have a few Ben&Ben songs in my playlists, some are incredibly beautiful with the lyrics and how it is sung, but a majority are in Filipino which I do not understand. Lifetime is one of their English songs and the lyrics convey a message of regret for not expressing how one truly feels.
Ben&Ben are a Filipino indie folk-pop band from Manila. They were formed in 2016 by twin brothers Paolo and Miguel Benjamin Guico, calling themselves The Benjamins.
Gregory Alan Isakov - San Luis
This song is slow in its delivery and pace and I’m sure there are many different ways you can evaluate the lyrics and what they mean but personally to myself I see it as a song about a couple who have drifted apart, physically alone in two different places now. but never mentally, forever in one’s thoughts throughout the rest of their lives.
Gregory Alan Isakov is a South African-born American singer and songwriter currently based in Boulder, Colorado. Isakov and his family immigrated to the United States in 1986 and he was raised in Philadelphia. Isakov's music combines indie and folk, featuring instruments such as the guitar and banjo.
Zach Bryan - Something In The Orange
Many of you perhaps know of Zach Bryan by now as he has become quite the household name the past few years. He makes beautiful heartbreaking songs to me which I seem to really enjoy.
Something in the Orange is by far my favourite, again it was found during this break-up period in my life and coming to terms with what is and what has been, which I think this song conveys perfectly. The lyrics "something in the orange tells me you're never coming home." it perfectly sums up the longing of love still present and heartache of a failed relationship.
