The stormy weather had us spending days indoors, literally. We did step out for a while during the weekend but came home quickly. Continuous rain makes me lazy that the bedroom turns into my comfort zone. Apart from Hiving, movies, snoozing, music, and whatever else become a pastime. Thankfully, our neighbors are yards away so we don't get bothered by others nor do we bug anybody around. No one gets disturbed when we turn up the speakers, not that we play sounds loud.
Speaking of music, Sunday was filled with tunes as we stayed comfy under the covers. Dua Lipa, a British-Albanian artist was one of those we listened to. Three of them are amongst my favorites which I'm now sharing as my recommendation for the Three Tune Tuesday initiative by Ablaze.
The first one below is the second single on her new album **Radical Optimism" released by Warner Records in February this year. It debuted at number four on the UK Singles Chart and 27th on the Billboard Hot 100.
Dua Lipa - Training Season
The song is club-friendly with its disco-pop beats and Eurodisco influences. Accordingly, the lyrics are about Lipa's demands from her romantic partners highlighting the importance of boundaries and ideals in relationships. The last phrase 'Training season's over' indicates she no longer wants to have to guide people on how to love her correctly.
Quite interesting, don't you think?
Anyhow, the next one was from her debut album in 2017. (Note: NSFW)
Dua Lipa - IDGAF
IDGAF, the acronym for "I Don't Give a F*ck" is a pop song, its lyrics are about post-breakup. The single was certified multi-platinum in six countries and was nominated for Best Choreography in 2018, British Single of the Year, and British Video of the Year in 2019.(src)
I feel the lyrics are strong, hence the NSFW note :)
And finally, the third tune is a collaboration with DaBaby in 2020. The song is an electro-disco with various music elements (dance-pop, pop-funk, power pop, space rock, pop, and even R&B).
Dua Lipa ft DaBaby - Levitating
The beats made me wanna go shake up, and bust some crazy disco moves (like my feet aren't both left, lol)! Tbh, I've only been to a disco once.
Anyway, the track peaked at number 5 on the UK Singles Chart and number 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100, becoming Lipa's seventh top-five single in the UK and second in the States.(src)
From modeling to becoming a recording artist, Dua Lipa is going far. It is worth mentioning that she holds seven Brit Awards and 3 Grammy Awards. She was also included in Time magazine's list of the 100 most influential people in the world in 2024.(src)
What an achievement!
But yeah, I find Lipa's music style fun, upbeat, funky, and edgy. Did you like any of her songs above? Hope you enjoyed at least one of them :)
Thank you and happy Tuesday, frens!
