Vuelvo a esta gran comunidad a hablarles de otro álbum que marcó bastante mi vida, 21st Century Breakdown (La Crisis del Siglo 21) de Green Day, una de mis bandas favoritas de la adolescencia.
Y como lees en el título del post, sí, era emo 😅 y aunque evidentemente me avergüenza un poco cómo me vestía en ese entonces y la actitud de "nadie me entiende", la verdad es que lo único que aún rescato es mi gusto musical. Este era uno de mis álbumes favoritos y la banda es indudablemente icónica. Un enorme referente del género punk rock.
I came back to this great community to tell you about another album that greatly marked my life, 21st Century Breakdown by Green Day, one of my favorite bands from my teenage years.And as you read in the title of the post, yes, I was emo 😅 and although obviously I'm a bit embarrassed by how I dressed back then and the attitude of "nobody understands me", the truth is that the only thing that I still like and stands out is my taste in music . This was one of my favorite albums and the band is undoubtedly iconic. A huge referring of the punk rock genre
Aunque he de admitir que su trabajo más reciente no me gusta para nada, lo que hicieron hasta aproximadamente el 2013 fue espectacular y lo que quiero recordar de la banda. Por eso vengo a hablarles sobre este álbum publicado en 2009 el cual fue un gran éxito para la banda.
Este es un álbum conceptual lo cual significa que la banda narra una historia a través de sus canciones, las cuales siguen un orden y sus conceptos están interrelacionados para así dar una estructura coherente de lo que se desea narrar. En este caso Green Day nos cuenta la historia de Christian y Gloria, una pareja de jóvenes que intenta llevar su relación en medio de lo que es vivir en un siglo lleno de adversidades, cambios vertiginosos y mucha inestabilidad. El siglo XXI.
Although I have to admit that I don't like their most recent work at all, what they did until around 2013 was spectacular and what I want to remember about the band. That's why I come here to talk to you about this album released in 2009 which was a great success for the band.This is a concept album which means that the band narrates a story through its songs, which follow an order and their concepts are interrelated in order to give a coherent structure of what they want to narrate. In this case, Green Day tells us the story of Christian and Gloria, a young couple who try to manage their relationship in the midst of what it is like to live in a century full of adversities, dizzying changes, and a lot of instability. If there is something that I really liked it was that they divided the different parts of the story into acts, as if it were a play you know, from theather. So I'll be breaking down the songs of each act and tell you the story❤
First of all we have a short song as an introduction to the story and also the next song on the album. The lyrics and music are quite simple, however, it does its job well, which is simply to contextualize. Briefly describe the times we live in: bombs, changes, smuggling, empty or unreal promises, wars, panic and prosperity (?)... It is in my opinion an excellent summary of only a minute and a half, counting only with the voice by Billie Joe and production arrangements, where we finally hear what is the beginning of the next song.
Canción 1: SONG OF THE CENTURY (LA CANCIÓN DEL SIGLO
En primer lugar tenemos una corta canción a modo de introducción de la historia y también de la siguiente canción del álbum. La letra y música son bastante simples sin embargo cumple bien con su cometido, el cual es simplemente contextualizar. Describe brevemente la época que vivimos: bombas, cambios, contrabando, promesas vacías o irreales, guerras, pánico y prosperidad (¿?)... Es en mi opinión un excelente resumen de sólo un minuto y medio aproximadamente, contando únicamente con la voz de Billie Joe y arreglos de producción, donde por último escuchamos lo que es el inicio de la siguiente canción.

Track 2: 21st CENTURY BREAKDOWN
Continuing with the previous song we start listening to the same sound as in the previous one but now exploding with all the sound and energy of the entire band. It is divided into three parts, each one with different melodies and chords, so they are clearly distinguished from each other, although the transition between each part is very well achieved. The first part sounds happy, with a rather catchy chorus. The second part has much more power and energy, it's faster, it has mostly verses but it ends with a bridge that introduces us to the third part, which is slower and somewhat sad. It conveys resignation.
On the other hand, the lyrics are consistent with those feelings that the music transmits. Firstly by describing the 21st century and how different it is from the past, as well as describing industrialization and the underpaid working class. Then the despair of being raised by a damaged generation and being in the age of patriotic heroes and their opponents, as well as the status quo. The phrase that sums it up best is "I praise liberty... The <>".
Finally, the sad part talks about how idealized the American dream is, which is not as beautiful as it seems... "Scream, America scream. Believe what you see from heroes and cons?"
Canción 2: 21st CENTURY BREAKDOWN (LA CRISIS DEL SIGLO 21)
Continuando con la canción anterior empezamos escuchando el mismo sonido que en la anterior pero ahora sí explotando con todo el sonido y energía de la banda entera. Está dividida en tres partes, cada una con melodías y acordes distintos por lo que se distinguen claramente entre sí aunque la transición entre cada parte está muy bien lograda. La primera parte suena feliz, con un coro bastante pegajoso. La segunda tiene mucha más potencia y energía, es más rápida, tiene mayormente estrofas pero termina con un puente que nos introduce a la tercera parte que es más lenta y un tanto triste. Transmite resignación.
Por otro lado la letra va acorde a esos sentimientos que transmite la música. En primer lugar describiendo el siglo XXI y lo diferente que es del pasado, así como describe la industrialización y la clase obrera mal pagada. Luego la desesperación de ser criado por una generación dañada y estar en la era de los héroes patrióticos y sus opositores, así como el estatus quo. La frase que lo resume mejor es "aprecio la libertad... La <>".
Por último la parte triste habla sobre lo idealizado que es el sueño americano, el cual no es tan bonito como parece... " Grita, América grita. ¿Crees en lo que ves de los héroes y sus contras?"
This song is a hymn to rebellion, calling for revolution against that enemy that destroys opportunities and the future. Call not to blind ourselves to beautiful lies. Violence is the energy of the insurgency and silence the enemy of the revolution. It is to stand up against the rotten society and the corrupt government. This song, although somewhat repetitive, has a lot of energy, which goes according to its lyrics.
Together with this song and the previous one, the social environment in which the protagonists of the work are found is established, which allows the characters to be contextualized, which in turn helps to establish the perspective on their actions and their stories. In my opinion they are necessary songs to understand the work that was done and they also fulfill their function wonderfully. They are also brilliantly catchy.
Canción 3: KNOW YOUR ENEMY (CONOCE A TU ENEMIGO)
Esta canción es un himno a la rebeldía, llamando a la rebelión contra ese enemigo que destruye oportunidades y futuro. Llama a no cegarnos frente a mentiras bonitas. La violencia es la energía de la insurgencia y el silencio el enemigo de la revolución. Es levantarse en contra de la sociedad podrida y el gobierno corrupto. Esta canción aunque un tanto repetitiva tiene mucha energía lo que va acorde a su letra.
Junto con esta canción y la anterior se establece el entorno social en el que se encuentran los protagonistas de la obra, lo cual permite contextualizar a los personajes lo que a su vez ayuda a establecer la perspectiva sobre sus acciones y sus historias. En mi opinión son canciones necesarias para entender la obra y además cumplen con su función maravillosamente. También son genialmente pegajosas.
Track 4: ¡VIVA LA GLORIA! (LONG LIVE THE GLORY!
The introduction of Gloria, our protagonist. She is described as a rebellious girl with a cause, due to all the traumas and limitations of being young today. She is described by someone else whom we later learn to be Chirstian, to who she has fallen in love with and he is in love with her aswell. He describes her as "the saint of all sinners" but who stands out for her light, so he asks her to "tell him the story of her life" to learn more about her. They finally start their relationship.
It is a perfect song to describe a character who, although broken inside due to her trauma, can perfectly hide it and pretend that she is strong and tough. They accentuate this with the soft beginning with Billie's sweet voice and a piano, but then it turns into an energetic and fast song. It also describes well how much it impacts Christian, so much so that he falls in love with her and makes her feel the same way.
And yes, the name is in Spanish. I guess it's because the girl's name is in Spanish too, and Billie is known to have strong hispanic influences, I think he even speaks some Spanish and likes to include it from time to time in his work. I like the words game because it could be talking about the girl or the concept of the word glory.
La introducción de Gloria, nuestra protagonista. Descrita como una chica rebelde con causa, debido a todos los traumas y limitaciones de ser joven en la actualidad. Ella es descrita por alguien más quien más adelante sabemos que es Chirstian, quien se ha enamorado de el y la describe como "la santa de todos los pecadores" pero que destaca por su luz, por lo que le pide que le "cuente la historia de su vida" para conocerla más. Finalmente comienzan su relación.
Es una canción perfecta para describir a un personaje que si bien está roto por dentro debido a sus traumas puede ocultarlo perfectamente y aparentar que es fuerte y ruda. Esto lo acentúan con el inicio suave con la voz dulce de Billie y un piano, pero luego se convierte en una canción llena de energía y rápida. También describe bien lo mucho que impacta a Christian, tanto que se enamora y logra que ella sienta lo mismo.
Y sí, el nombre es en español. Supongo que es porque el nombre de la chica está en español también, y es sabido que Billie tiene fuertes influencias hispanas, creo que incluso habla algo de español y le gusta incluirlo de vez en cuando en su trabajo. Me agrada el juego de palabras porque puede estar hablando de la chica o del concepto de la palabra gloria.
One of my favorite songs. With a slow start where the voice also stands out, then it becomes more energetic, however it is much slower than the other songs. Although without a doubt what I like the most is the lyrics. Describe how it feels to lose yourself in sadness and nostalgia, how your traumas can overcome you. It's losing against your inner demons.
As for the story, it is precisely what Gloria describes in the first stanza, that life that she led in a broken and sad home. Then there it talks about Christian who "sings an eulogy", this is a speech or praise to a thing or person, especially when he has passed away. So Gloria compares Christian to a lobotomy in the sense that he has changed her personality making her think she is nothing without him but in turn makes her see her old life as a memory. As the song puts it "remember to learn to forget".
But it also describes the chaotic personality of Christian, who uses drugs and other methods to escape reality, and drags Gloria into this life. She remembers her suffering with sadness but knows that she cannot erase the past; he wants to pretend it never existed. Summary: toxic relationship.
Canción 5: BEFORE THE LOBOTOMY (ANTES DE LA LOBOTOMÍA)
Una de mis canciones favoritas. Con un inicio lento donde también destaca la voz, luego se vuelve más enérgica sin embargo es mucho más lenta que las otras canciones. Aunque sin duda lo que más me gusta es la letra. Describe cómo se siente perderse en la tristeza y nostalgia, como tus traumas pueden vencerte. Es perder contra tus demonios internos.
En cuanto a la historia es precisamente lo que Gloria describe en la primera estrofa, esa vida que llevaba en un hogar roto y triste. Luego se habla de Christian quien "canta un elogio", esto es un discurso o alabanza a una cosa o persona, especialmente cuando ha fallecido. Por lo que Gloria compara a Christian con una lobotomía en el sentido de que él ha cambiado su personalidad haciéndola pensar que es nada sin él pero que a su vez hace que ella vea su vida antigua como un recuerdo. Tal como dice " recuerda aprender a olvidar ".
Pero también describe la personalidad caótica de Christian, quien usa drogas y otros métodos para escapar de la realidad, y arrastra a Gloria a esta vida. Ella recuerda su sufrimiento con tristeza pero sabe que no puede borrar el pasado; él desea pretender que jamás existió. Resumen: relación tóxica.
It can be described in just two words: Anger and resentment; finally both things are related. Describes Christian's totally unstable, chaotic and explosive personality. He basically sees himself as the antichrist and wallows in consuming rage. His traumas are gasoline and he is the flame. His hell will burn everything around him, including Gloria.
I love the words game in the name. Christian, in addition to being a proper name, also means "Christian", the religious cult, so the name can also be understood as "Christian hell". It's funny if you take into account that the character is clearly atheist and rebellious and the song basically talks about being the antichrist.
Just like the lyrics, the music that accompanies it is just as explosive and strong. A good punk mixed with heavy rock where the main guitar riff that sounds totally demonic stands out. It's definitely a great song.
Canción 6: CHRISTIAN'S INFERNO (EL INFIERNO DE CHRISTIAN)
Puede ser descrita es sólo dos palabras: Rabia y resentimiento; finalmente ambas cosas se relacionan. Describe la personalidad totalmente inestable, caótica y explosiva de Christian. Básicamente se ve a sí mismo como el anticristo y se revuelca en la rabia que lo va consumiendo. Sus traumas son la gasolina y él la llama. Su infierno lo quemará todo a su alrededor, incluida Gloria.
Me encanta el juego de palabras que hay en el nombre. Christian además de ser un nombre propio significa también "cristiano", por lo que el nombre puede entenderse también como "El infierno cristiano". Tiene su gracia si se toma en cuenta que el personaje es claramente ateo y rebelde y la canción habla de ser el anticristo, básicamente.
Tal como la letra, la música que la acompaña es igual de explosiva y fuerte. Un buen punk mezclado con rock pesado donde destaca el riff de la guitarra principal que suena totalmente demoníaco. Es sin duda una canción genial.
Christian has a moment of lucidity and the only thing he wants to convey in that moment is that even if today was his last day of life, Gloria is the only thing he loved. Despite everything, she is the reason he is still alive. "Even if I lose everything in the fire, I’m sendig all my love to you."
It is a ballad with really beautiful and romantic lyrics. At the same time, it is a pleasant closing of the first act where the two broken personalities that by chance came together and now depend on each other are well explained. Nice song but what a toxic story in my opinion😅.
Although I should point out that Billie later stated that this song was the least in line with the story, it really wasn't written for the purpose of being included here. However, he wrote this beautiful ballad to his wife and she liked it so much that he wanted to include it in the album.
Canción 7: LAST NIGHT ON EARTH (LA ÚLTIMA NOCHE EN LA TIERRA)
Christian tiene un momento de lucidez y lo único que desea transmitir en ese momento es que incluso si hoy es su último día de vida, Gloria es lo único que amó. A pesar de todo ella es la razón por la que sigue vivo. "Incluso si pierdo todo en el incendio, te envió todo mi amor a ti".
Es una balada con una letra realmente muy bonita y romántica. A su vez es un cierre agradable del primer acto donde se explica bien las dos personalidades rotas que por cosas del azar se unieron y ahora dependen una de la otra. Bonita canción pero qué historia tan tóxica en mi opinión😅.
Aunque debo destacar que Billie posteriormente declaró que esta canción era la que menos iba acorde con la historia, realmente no fue escrita con el propósito de incluirse aquí. Sin embargo escribió esta hermosa balada a su esposa y le gustó tanto que quiso incluirla en el álbum.
ACT II: Charlatans and Saints
ACTO II: Charlatanes y Santos
Without a doubt my favorite song on the album. It is a crude and harsh criticism of religion, highlighting the hypocritical principles that not even those on churches respect, in addition to trying to demonize sinners when in reality we all are. It highlights the genocide and blasphemy of the Bible, as well as the appearances kept by people who attend church on a Sunday but during the rest of the week they are of the worst kind.
The last sentence "the sirens of decay will infiltrate the inside you". Strong and accurate. The music is super catchy, with a riff as a sort of pretty cool solo, with energy and even a haughty tone in the voice. Total rebellion.
As for the story, this can really tell the point of view of Christian, Gloria and a large part of today's youth. We are fed up with lies and empty doctrines.
Canción 8: EAST JESUS NOWHERE (JESÚS ESTÁ EN NINGUNA PARTE)
Sin duda alguna mi canción favorita del álbum. Es una crítica cruda y dura hacia la religión, resaltando los principios hipócritas que ni siquiera los de la iglesia respetan además de que pretenden demonizar a pecador cuando en realidad todos lo somos. Resalta el genocidio y blasfemia de la biblia, así como las apariencias que guardan las personas que asisten un domingo a la iglesia pero de resto son de la peor calaña.
La última frase "las sirenas de la decadencia se infiltrarán en su interior". Contundente y acertado. La música es súper pegajosa, con un riff a modo de una especie de solo bastante genial, con energía e incluso cierto tono altanero en la voz. Rebeldía total.
En cuanto a la historia realmente esto puede narrar el punto de vista de Christian, Gloria y una gran parte de la juventud actual. Estamos hartos de mentiras y doctrinas vacías.
This song is a kind of continuation of the story told in the previous one, continuing with the religious criticism that both characters share. However, it further explores the hatred and resentment of Christian, who promises revenge and who even feels pleasure and love in it.
And this, believe it or not, refers to the name of the song. "Peacemaker" is the name of a firearm. Yup, as ironic as that sounds. So the phrases "well, call the peacemaker!" it is a call to violence. There are also quotes about free Molotov cocktails, etc.
Although it is a song about vengeful and violent desires, it is more of a danceable and energetic song. The constantly repeating guitar riff is more of a good energy, a song that would easily liven up a party. The contrast between the lyrics and the music is great.
Canción 9: PEACEMAKER (EL PACIFICADOR)
Esta canción es una especie de continuación de la historia narrada en la anterior, continuando con la crítica religiosa que ambos personajes comparten. Sin embargo explora más el odio y resentimiento de Christian, quien promete venganza y quien siente incluso placer y amor en eso.
Y esto, lo crean o no, hace referencia al nombre de la canción. "Peacemaker" o el pacificador es el nombre de un arma de fuego. Síp, por irónico que suene. Por lo que las frases "bueno, ¡llama al pacificador!" es un llamado a la violencia. También hay frases sobre cócteles Molotov gratis, etc.
Aunque sea una canción sobre deseos vengativos y violentos es más una canción bailable y enérgica. El riff de guitarra que se repite constantemente es más de una buena energía, una canción que fácilmente animaría una fiesta. El contraste entre la letra y la música es genial.
Track 10: LAST OF THE AMERICAN GIRLS
We have Gloria, a girl who fights for good causes, an activist at heart who, although she fulfills some of the common stereotypes in North America (she loves conspiracies, she is paranoid…) really tries to break with conventional things. She cares little about society and its labels, she does not cooperate with what is established. And even her makeup is a protest, her face like a wall where she paints her graffiti. That's Gloria, a good-hearted rebel.
This song is more pop rock than punk, really more laid back and simple. Although I like the lyrics about a girl who goes against the current, the truth is that on the album it is the one that seems to me to be the weakest song. Perhaps because it breaks out of the genre that is worked on in the rest of the songs and since it's not romantic at all like the case of Last night on earth, it doesn't make much sense for it to break out of the pattern. Just my opinion.
Canción 10: LAST OF THE AMERICAN GIRLS (LO ÚLTIMO DE LAS CHICAS AMERICANAS)
Tenemos a Gloria una chica que lucha por las buenas causas, una activista de corazón que si bien cumple con algunos de los estereotipos comunes en norteamérica (le encantan las conspiraciones, es paranoide) realmente intenta romper con lo convencional. Poco le importan la sociedad y sus etiquetas, no coopera con lo establecido. E incluso su maquillaje es una protesta, su cara como una pared donde ella pinta sus graffitis. Esa es Gloria, una rebelde de buen corazón.
Esta canción es más pop rock que punk, realmente más relajada y simple. Aunque me gusta la letra sobre una chica que va contra la corriente la verdad es que del álbum es la que me parece la canción más floja. Quizá porque se sale del género que se trabaja en el resto de las canciones y como no es nada romántica como el caso de Last night con earth, no tiene mucho sentido que se salga del patrón. Sólo mi opinión.
Christian and Gloria try to do everything they can to get along with their relationship and also to defend those ideals, the fight against the established. But Gloria realizes that everything is a lost cause, they will not get anywhere. Christian cries in the bathroom and she is smoking. They are the last hope but they are so pathetic... Everything is lost, even the relationship.
We return with energetic punk rock and it is excellent in this song that talks about broken dreams and ultimately illusion. Loud, fast guitars describe Gloria's anguish as well as her disappointment with everything, including Christian.
Canción 11: MURDER CITY (LA CUIDAD DEL ASESINATO)
Christian y Gloria intentan hacer todo lo posible por llevar bien su relación y también por defender esos ideales, la lucha contra lo establecido. Pero Gloria se da cuenta que todo es una causa perdida, no llegarán a ninguna parte. Christian llora en el baño y ella está fumando. Son la última esperanza pero son tan patéticos... Todo está perdido, incluso la relación.
Volvemos con el punk rock enérgico y queda excelente en esta canción que habla de sueños rotos y en fin de la ilusión. Guitarras fuertes y rápidas describen la angustia de Gloria así como su decepción con todo, incluso Christian.
Track 12: ¿VIVA LA GLORIA? (LITTLE GIRL) {LONG LIVE THE GLORY?}
"Little girl, little girl, why are you crying? Inside your restless soul your heart is dying". Gloria breaks down, feeling helpless and depressed, to the point of suicide and self-harm. She wants to run away but she has nowhere to go. She strongly criticizes herself as she cries inconsolably. "So unholy sister of grace."
One of my favorites. It starts off slow in the first verse but then the chorus kicks in with full force. It talks about intrusive thoughts and the damage we can do to ourselves, becoming our own worst enemy. Also despair, disappointment and depression is a subject that personally touches me a lot. Just 10/10.
Canción 12: ¿VIVA LA GLORIA? (LITTLE GIRL) {PEQUEÑA NIÑA}
"Pequeña niña, pequeña niña, ¿por qué lloras? En el interior de tu alma sin descanso tu corazón está muriendo". Gloria se derrumba, se siente desamparada y deprimida, al punto del suicidio y la auto lesión. Quiere huir pero no tiene a donde ir. Se critica fuertemente a sí misma mientras llora inconsolablemente. "Tan impía hermana de la gracia".
Una de mis favoritas. Empieza lenta en la primera estrofa pero luego el coro entra con toda la potencia. Habla de pensamientos intrusivos y el daño que nos podemos hacer a nosotros mismos, convirtiéndonos en nuestro peor enemigo. También la desesperación, decepción, depresión y decepción es un tema que personalmente me llega mucho. Simplemente 10/10.
Track 13: RESTLESS HEART SYNDROME
Christian suffers from an illness: he has been heartbroken ever since Gloria left him. He begs anyone to give him his medicine (drugs) so he can forget everything. He talks about his insecurities and internal struggles, he tells us that you are your own worst enemy and he is also his own worst enemy. Also speaking of Gloria he says So what ails you is what impales you, I feel like I’ve been crucified to be satisfied". He feels that she has also hurt him a lot, even when she was supposed to be his medicine.
The song is a good slow rock that's perfect for describing a rebel's broken heart, however at the end when Christian comes to the conclusion that he bears some of the blame as well, it turns into a much heavier rock, with a energetic and sinister guitar solo. It is also one of my favorites and without a doubt it is worth to listen to many times.
Canción 13: RESTLESS HEART SYNDROME (SÍNDROME DEL CORAZÓN SIN DESCANSO)
Christian sufre de una enfermedad: tiene el corazón roto desde que Gloria lo dejó. Le ruega a cualquiera que le dé su medicina (drogas) para así olvidar todo. Habla de sus inseguridades y luchas internas, nos dice que tú eres tu propio peor enemigo y él es también su propio peor enemigo. También hablando de Gloria dice Entonces lo que te aflige es lo que te empala, siento que me han crucificado para poder satisfacerse". Siente que ella también le ha hecho mucho daño, incluso cuando se suponía que ella era su medicina.
La canción es un buen rock lento que es perfecto para describir el corazón roto de un rebelde, sin embargo al final cuando Christian llega a la conclusión de que él también carga con parte de la culpa, se vuelve un rock mucho más pesado, con un solo de guitarra enérgico y siniestro. Es también una de mis favoritas y sin duda es para escucharla muchas veces.

Track 14: HORSESHOES AND HANDGRENADES
Maybe you’re the runner-up but the first to lose the race. That almost only really counts on the horseshoes and hand grenades. Horseshoes is a popular sport in the US where you must throw horseshoes from a certain distance to get as close to a stick as possible. Grenades when thrown project shrapnel towards any nearby object, so they can do damage from a distance. In both cases, an indirect approach is effective, but lyrics talk about how it only works in those cases, not in real life. Almost winning doesn't really count.
This song is basically Christian fucking it up again but obviously making the same old mistakes. He urges Gloria to keep hurting him but he acts like he doesn't care and is going to destroy everything he has near him. He threatens her to overstep all limits and warns that he's not kidding this time.
It is pure resentment and the music is very consistent with this. It generates a carefree feeling with a very danceable and pleasant rock. For a party it is great. It's a very good song, even though it almost wasn't included in the album (for some strange reason it didn't quite convince them).
Canción 14: HORSESHOES AND HANDGRENADES (HERRADURAS Y GRANADAS DE MANO)
Quizá seas el subcampeón pero eres el primero en perder la carrera. Eso casi cuenta con las herraduras y granadas de mano. Las Herraduras son un deporte popular en EE.UU donde debes lanzar herraduras desde cierta distancia para llegar lo más cerca posible a un palo. Las granadas cuando son lanzadas proyectan metralla hacia cualquier objeto cercano, por lo que pueden hacer daño a distancia. En ambas cosas un acercamiento indirecto es efectivo, pero letra habla de que sólo funciona en esos casos, en la vida no. Casi ganar realmente no cuenta.
Esta canción es básicamente Christian mandando todo a la mierda de nuevo pero obviamente cometiendo los mismos errores de siempre. Incita a Gloria a seguir hiriéndolo pero él actúa como si no le importara y fuese a destruir todo lo que tiene cerca. La amenaza con sobrepasar todos los límites y advierte que no está bromeando esta vez.
Es resentimiento puro y la música va muy acorde con esto. Genera una sensación de despreocupación con un rock bastante bailable y agradable. Para una fiesta queda genial. Es una muy buena canción, a pesar de que por poco no es incluida en el álbum (por alguna extraña razón no los terminaba de convencer).
This song returns to social criticism. By static, the band means that everything that the mainstream media shows is just "white noise." It is static, nothing important because they only seek to indoctrinate you under consumerism and capitalism, filling you with invented ideas just to alienate you to the conventional. It is basically narrating how society manipulates you through different media.
Everything is propaganda, consumerism and vices. The era of nothing.
Despite the fact that the song again has an inclination towards pop, this is not an exaggerated; however, even if it were, it would be excellent in this song since it talks about today's society and criticizes what is in fashion, so sounding pop is a kind of mocking the most popular on the radio. An excellent way to convey the message since both lyrics and music complement each other.
Canción 15: THE STATIC AGE (LA ERA ESTÁTICA)
Esta canción vuelve a la crítica social. Por estática la banda se refiere a que todo aquello que los grandes medios de comunicación muestran es sólo "ruido blanco". Es estática, nada importante porque sólo buscan adoctrinarte bajo el consumismo y capitalismo, llenándote de ideas inventadas sólo para alienarte a lo convencional. Es básicamente narrar cómo la sociedad te manipula a través de los diferentes medios.
Todo es propaganda, consumismo y vicios. La era de la nada.
A pesar de que nuevamente la canción tiene una inclinación hacia el pop esta no es exagerada sin embargo aunque lo fuese quedaría excelente en esta canción puesto que habla de la sociedad actual y critica lo que está de moda, por lo que sonar pop es una especie de burla a lo más popular en la radio. Una excelente forma de transmitir el mensaje ya que tanto letra como música se complementan.
Christian and Gloria meet again but contrary to the explosion of anger that could be expected, both discover that they feel a deep sadness for not being together. Both invite each other to lay down their weapons, put aside the fight and reconcile. They admit the mistakes they made but ultimately decide to put them behind them.
This song is soft rock that goes quite well with the lyrics. It is also a kind of ballad that undoubtedly magnificently represents what they want to tell in the story. An interesting fact is that "21 guns" is a military salute used to honor those who have fallen in battle. In the context of the song it's basically giving up and stop fighting.
Canción 16: 21 GUNS (21 PISTOLAS)
Christian y Gloria se reencuentran pero contrario a la explosión de ira que podía esperarse ambos descubren que sienten una profunda tristeza por no estar juntos. Ambos se invintan el uno al otro a dejar las armas, hacer a un lado la pelea y reconciliarse. Admiten los errores que cometieron pero finalmente deciden dejarlos atrás.
Esta canción es rock suave que va bastante bien con la letra. Es también una especie de balada que sin duda representa magníficamente lo que se quiere contar en la historia. Un dato interesante es que "21 pistolas" es un saludo militar usado para rendir honores a aquellos caídos en batalla. En el contexto de la canción es básicamente rendirse y dejar de pelear.
It begins with a small introduction with the same melody, chords and almost the same lyrics of the first song, Song of The Century, although it is much shorter. Then it goes to the first section of the song or side A. MASS HYSTERIA.
And as honoring the name it is a section with a lot of power and energy, almost frenetic. The band goes on to talk about all the social, political and economic problems of that dream country that in reality is so corrupted that it is slowly rotting away. Even the language they use becomes more irreverent, using that word with N. Yup. And as for Christian and Gloria now together with a better relationship, they will continue in the rebellion and fight against that rotten society.
On the side B. MODERN WORLD continuing with the energy the melody is incredibly catchy and the lyrics continue to be a critique of the bureaucratic and lying modern world system. In the end, both sides of the song come together as mass hysteria is a product of the modern world.
Canción 17: AMERICAN EULOGY (ELOGIO AMERICANO)
Comienza con una pequeña introducción con la misma melodía, acordes y casi la misma letra de la primera canción Song of The Century, aunque es mucho más breve. Después pasa a la primera sección de la canción o cara A. MASS HYSTERIA (HISTERIA EN MASA).
Y como honrando el nombre es una sección con mucha potencia y energía, casi frenética. La banda continúa hablando de todos los problemas sociales, políticos y económicos de ese país de ensueño que en realidad está tan corrupto que se está pudriendo lentamente. Incluso el lenguaje que usan se vuelve más irreverente, usando aquella palabra con N. Síp. Y en cuanto a Christian y Gloria ahora juntos con una mejor relación, continuarán en la rebelión y luchando contra esa sociedad podrida.
En la cara B. MODERN WORLD (MUNDO MODERNO) continuando con la energía la melodía es increíblemente pegajosa y la letra continúa siendo una crítica al sistema del mundo moderno, burocrático y mentiroso. Al final se unen ambas caras de la canción, ya que la histeria en masa en producto del mundo moderno.
The closure of this story of rebellion, anger, resentment, sadness, trauma and (toxic) love. It starts off slowly and then it gains strength in cressendo with a catchy chorus again and where the message is summed up "Light, I just want to see, the light and I don't want to lose my sight. I need to know what’s worth fight". Christian and Gloria hope to find together a good reason to live with the hope that in the future things in the world will change.
After drugs, fire, lose control and hurricanes, all they have left is hope.
Canción 18: SEE THE LIGHT (VE LA LUZ)
El cierre de esta historia de rebelión, rabia, resentimiento, tristeza, traumas y amor (tóxico). Comienza lentamente y luego va tomando fuerza in cressendo con un coro nuevamente pegajoso y donde se resume el mensaje "La luz, sólo quiero ver la luz y no quiero perder la vista. Necesito saber por lo que vale la pena luchar". Christian y Gloria esperan encontrar juntos un buen motivo para vivir con la esperanza de que en un futuro las cosas en el mundo cambien.
Luego de drogas, fuego, descontrol y huracanes todo lo que les queda es esperanza

Tanto la portada como la cara trasera siguen el mismo estilo, al frente un graffiti de Christian y Gloria besándose con un fondo naranja que cuando miramos en el lado posterior vemos que están encima de un auto y lo naranja son llamas de fondo. Todo grita rebeldía.
On an aesthetic level, the design of the physical disc is very consistent with the theme of the story. The booklet contains the letters in a font that looks like graffiti and in fact the background is block walls. It introduces each act with a drawing of skulls and we also see the faces of the three band members at the time that equally look like graffiti. The disc has the list of songs, the the band’s logo, the name of the album and the face of Gloria with a very rebel-style bandana. Again everything looks like street art.Both the front cover and the back cover follow the same style, on the front there is a graffiti of Christian and Gloria kissing with an orange background that when we look at the back side we see that they are on top of a car and the orange are flames in the background. Everything screams rebellion.
I really love concept albums and I think this is a good reference. Although it is not at the level of its predecessor "American Idiot" without a doubt the band did a great job again since the story is well narrated, with the lyrics more than one listener has felt identified (me included) and the music is simply a great energetic punk rock. If you are a fan of the genre, you will surely like this album😉🎧
