I was sort of inspired by @thebighigg's post where he picked three songs. Just a coincidence my sdcard where my library of mp3s of songs (whom I think I'm the only one just listening to them now) got corrupted for a year now, and rightly so I have a new phone with enough memory to store quite some songs, so redownloading stuff I like. Mostly 90s, some 80s and 70s.
I think blogging them here is like some sort of honoring the musical prodigies of the 80s and 99s i grew up with. Man, compared to the music spewed out back then, only a few artists now can really hold water to the artists of the soon to be forgotten era.
By the way, my auditory palate is really across genres. I listen to metal tand alternative stuff mostly but once in a while I can play Enya or Madonna stuff. I think I go for artistry first then melody/beat second consideration. I also look at the complixity of how a song was put together.
For my first pick, I want to honor the late great Jeff Buckley. His untimely death was truly a loss to the music industry. He was at the fore of a rising stardom and in fact being touted as the next musical genius of the generation like Kurt Cobain or Michael Jackson were regarded. But by some freak accident, we will only wonder what other great stuff he could have composed.
My favorite song from him is called Last Good-bye which i never heard much from radio stations back then. When I heard this song for the first time I was literally blown away. Up until now this song gives me goosebumps when I listen to it. What I like about the song rhe most is its not the usual format. Usually you will see a lot of songs have repetitive stanzas or lines. Last Goodbye doesn't have one repeatinf lines.
The song is just so soulful. Its not just his voice but even just the melody can hook you in.
Please enjoy and tell me what do you think of the song.
