DubMatix: Fantastic Bassment Sessions for Three Tune Tuesday.

in #hive-1938162 years ago

If you're into dub, reggae, roots, electro, dancehall, drum and bass, this post is for you - if not, maybe pop back another week. This tag gets pretty diverse and there's definitely music around you couldn't even try to like, but what's really cool is that we're all super passionate about music and love sharing it, and discovering new stuff to listen to, thanks to @ablaze!

If there's one thing that can cheer you up it's a weekend drive through the forest with some banging tunes. We've recently got our Defender 130 on the road, and whilst we still don't have a decent soundsystem we can still listen to music which is amazing - I don't think any of our cars are that great with this aha!

Anyway, I thought I'd share one of our favourite podcasts, an hour long session with Dubmatix, who's a Canadian . You can find it on podbean or on tons of other places. There's over 150 sessions so if this is your kind of music, you'll love it, guaranteed.

This first artist isn't without controversy - a Radio One dj and rapper done for assaulting his girlfriend. But neither of us knew this goss when we were enjoying it driving down the road. Anyway it raises questions about the distance between artist's personal lives and their art, which is a long running debate in all areas of creativity. Record label Tru Thoughts axed him anyway.

This next one is a catchy tune from 1990 - basically about not being a pushover and setting boundaries. Whether you see 'washing your face in my sink' as literal or alluding to something else is up to you, either way it's a fun old school hip hop tune.

This one sent the hubs remiscining of drum and bass nights in Brixton in the 90s, proper hard core crazy stuff in his memories. It's funny for us old folk looking back at the 90's, a golden time for music whether you were into hardcore, grunge or whatever. Not to say we haven't moved with the times which we totally have - but damn there were some banging tunes that are worth listening to just when you think you've forgotton.

Anyway as I said above, if this kinda stuff is your jam, you'll adore Dubmatix Bassment Sessions - it's on repeat at ours often.

With Love,

Managing to squeeze in a bit of listening time on the last day of our holiday and what a treat these three were, all new to me and all quality!

Man, hard to pick a favourite but that last one is such a banger it has to be the winner... Does this predate Funk soul brother by Fat Boy Slim? If so he definitely ripped off the bit around 1:30... Pure quality beats here....

My husband and I used to load up the tunes, the snacks and head for the hills on hot days. It's one thing I really miss...

Oh I bet you miss a ton of things but the road trips just the two of you must have been special and created some lovely memories xx
