Hello to all my fellow music lovers! Hope that you have a wonderful weekend.

With the start of the new year opens a new chapter for music but before I say my farewell to 2024, I want to look back on some of the best highlights when it comes to Metal music which I know has a niche audience but was able to do amazing stuff that introduces them to mainstream audience or achieving something that is outside my wildest imagination. So without further ado, here are the fun metal things of 2024.

Sipknot On Hot Ones

Slipknot was a heavy metal band that popularize the songs Psychosocial, Duality and Dead Memories among the many others and their mask makes them stand out among other bands with how weird and scary they look so them being on Hot Ones Versus was a surprise for me. For those that didn't know, Hot Ones was a YouTube show where the guest would eat chicken wings dipped on different hot sauce that would increase in Scoville unit throughout the show. This show has a wide audience so them being a guest on Hot Ones can help them be exposed to new listeners as well as a precedent for more metal bands to be featured on the show. And its not me speculating cause the show organizers has their pinned comment asking which band should they feature next. Overall, it was wholesome and the things they talk about are something that I cared as a fan.

Chaney of Entheos On kai Cenat Stream

Entheos was a Progressive metal band that has been around since 2015 from ex members of Animosity, Animals as Leaders, and The Faceless so they have more history and experience that precedes the band. What's interesting was that this band has a female vocalist doing all the screaming and growling and that vocalist was suddenly exposed on Kai Cenats's audience when Chaney Crabb was invited by Kai Cenat during one of his streams which is the fifth most followed streamer on Twitch. The video that I shared in here was a recap of his streams and since I'm not a do not watch him and twitch in general, I just watched it on when Chaney shows up and sing An End to Everything at 20:48. It so really cool and to be shown on hundred thousands of people metal music that people would not discover on their own was a huge win for the genre.

Slaughter To Prevail Biggest Wall Of Death 2024

Slaughter to Prevail was a Russian Deathcore Band that has been gaining on popularity with their Lead, ALEX Terrible as an oozing manifestation of muscularity and recently made a collaboration with Falling In Reverse for the song Ronald. Alex Terrible was the demon that Ronnie Radke had to fight near at the end of the song. For bands like this, it was not uncommon to perform on live concerts but what they accomplish during the Hellfest was really incredible for making the biggest wall of death for 2024. Wall of death is a form of moshing where the audience divide two halves of either side of the venue then each side will run towards the other, slamming the two sides together. The top view of the venue was even more amazing on this Loudwire article. Before the Wall of death, they sing the song Viking and Bratva became the signal when the Wall of death begins.

Knocked Loose ft. Poppy – Suffocate on Jimmy Kimmel Show

Jimmy Kimmel Live was an American talk show that has been running since 2003 with more than 3,500 episodes. Having been running this long just shows that it has a wide audience but last month, there have been some backlash to it when they invited Knocked Loose and Poppy to sing the song Suffocate which is nominated for the best metal performance on the Grammy Awards. One angry parent even says this.

“You know I was trying to enjoy the program. I was sitting on the couch with my son who is an ADOLESCENT waiting to see the musical guest because we like the nice music the show usually books,” one viewer wrote on Facebook, per The Mirror. “By the third or fourth 'JUNT' my son was in tears. He doesn't like scary things and quite frankly I think the Kimmel show and its staff should make a formal apology.”- Source: Revolver

But for metal fans, it was a huge W, having to see our favorite band on national television and getting exposed to a wider audience.

Motionless In White At WWE Wrestlemania

WWE WrestleMania is like the Superbowl for wrestling and we can actually see that with how big the stadium is, full of wrestling fans so for Motionless in White to perform on this enormous stage is one that is to celebrate having them to sing Demon in Your Dream which is Rhea Ripley's them song prior to her successful Women's World Championship defense. According to Rhea Ripley, she was also a long fan of the band and knowing that, can introduce a lot of wrestling fan to the band and the Metal genre.

Gojira - Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!) 2024 Paris Olympics

Finally, and what could be the biggest win of the year was for the French Metal band Gojira to perform at the opening of the Olympics with the song Mea Culpa (Ah! Ça ira!) with the French-Swiss mezzo-soprano Marina Viotti which is viewed by billions of people all around the world. This was also sung at the Conciergerie building which is a former prison where Marie Antoinette was held captive and eventually beheaded during the French Revolution and a big part of the French History. That's why there was the beheaded Marie Antoinette at the start of the song. Aside from supporting the Philippine athletes that represents our country to the Olympics, this is the second thing that I was really happy to see as this was the very first time that a metal band has performed in the Olympics. The song was also nominated for the Grammy's Best Metal performance which will take place at February 2025.
