music - friday rock slot cancelled

in #hive-193816last year

say what?? friday rock is compulsory!

Give me back my broken night
My mirrored room, my secret life
It's lonely here
There's no one left to torture
Give me absolute control
Over every living soul
And lie beside me, baby
That's an order!
Give me crack and anal sex
Take the only tree that's left
And stuff it up the hole
In your culture
Give me back the Berlin wall
Give me Stalin and St Paul
I've seen the future, brother:
It is murder

The Future is the ninth studio album by the Canadian singer-songwriter Leonard Cohen, released in 1992. Almost an hour in length, it was Cohen's longest album up to that date.[1] Both the fall of the Berlin Wall and the 1992 Los Angeles riots took place while Cohen was writing and recording the album, which expressed his sense of the world's turbulence.[2] The album was recorded with a large cast of musicians and engineers in several different studios; the credits list almost 30 female singers

You don't know me from the wind
You never will, you never did
I'm the little Jew
Who wrote the Bible
I've seen the nations rise and fall
I've heard their stories, heard them all
But love's the only engine of survival
Your servant here, he has been told
To say it clear, to say it cold:
It's over, it ain't going
Any further
And now the wheels of heaven stop
You feel the devil's riding crop
Get ready for the future:
It is murder

my friends and i would often deliberate about who we would have dinner with if we could choose any one person... and almost always Leonard was my choice. i would have loved for him to describe the music scene in the late 60's .... have him describe his scene with janis joplin at the chelsea hotel. so many others.

leonard had the bad grace to pass on before i could meet him {sulk}

so, mentioning janis i recalled a live performance where he talks about meeting her in the elevator... i going to track it down and include here... be patient ... this may take some time.

give his intro a listen... makes me smile again and again... and i can picture the scene as he describes.

i was going to finish off with a janis joplin song then came across this young lady. methinks she had the same inclination as myself. give it a listen, lyrics below

I wish that I could buy you a drink
And then more and then five
I'd get you drunk and I'd get me outgoing
All week or just this one night
And then maybe we could go for a walk
And I'll just listen while you talk

My imagination slips
Then I have you taking
Me to Barcelona for the weekend
You describe the night
Phil Spector with his revolver
Served his ceremonial wine

We'd compare mythologies
And toast those friends that never believed
That our voices ever had much to offer
And then maybe we could go for a walk
And I'd just listen while you talk

I wish that I could buy you a drink
And then more and then five
At the end of the night
I'd conveniently misplace my wallet
And you'd wind up buying mine

We'd compare mythologies
And toast those friend that never believed
That our voices ever had much to offer
And then maybe we would go for a walk
And I'd just listen while you talk

You'd point to the harbor
Moonlight against the water
The boats against the dock
And through the dark
Our shadows then would get along
And I'd just listen while you talk

And through the dark
Our shadows then might get along

And I'd just listen while you talk
