Good day dear mates today in my selection I want to tell you about group acquaintance with which happened for me in 10th. But this band itself has over 40 years history behind it. Today I'd like to share with you my track list of songs of Alphaville synth-pop band formed in Münster in 1983. And became one of the most famous and popular band in my opinion.
But my acquaintance with the work of this band of course happened much later in the 2010s. I remember very well that day when we were driving in the car, the radio Monte Carlo was on and on it's wave the song Big in Japan was on. And since that moment our love began.
And exactly this song was represented to big audience on single in January 1984. And here it's official video.
But here story with this song didn't finish for me. Because as I found later not all people know that it's Alphaville's original song. One of my former girlfriend honestly fought that it's song of Guano Apes band. Of course I can understand her especially considering that fact that she loved such alternative groups. and here you can find Guano Apes version.
Honestly for me this version not best but it's no matters now. Because not so far ago in 2022 was published symphonic version of Big in Japan song.
And here I should say that Marian Gold showed again that he is in good form and still has strong voice that gets to the core of your soul. By the way Marian Gold the only one person who still in action there from the original band.
Now let's move on to the next song which also presented on the first Alphaville's album and has the same name - Forever Young! This album was Released27 September 1984 and recorded on Studio 54 in Berlin.
But here again with this song I had another one story. And in this time acquaintance with this song started for me since one well known movie Three Steps Above Heaven. I think you can remember scene of dancing with H at Babi's graduation and birthday ceremony. Exactly there this song was used.
And surely this song was released in Symphonic version.
In this case symphonic version against first two videos of this song creates or maybe it would be more correct to say conveys the feeling of emotion of an experienced man who has lived a rich life has seen and experienced a lot and as if he wants to pass on his experience or warn against rash actions of a young man. But this is purely my opinion.
And finally the last one song from me for today also from debut album - Sounds like a melody
As it said Marian Gold:
record studio executives requested that Alphaville release an additional single between the two singles, and as a result "Sounds Like a Melody" was written and arranged in just two days. The whole affair felt like an insult to our naive hippie instincts. Writing music exclusively for the sake of commercial success seemed like the sell-out of our virtual beliefs. On the other hand, did this not open up possibilities for wonderful games to play in the brave new world of pop music?" This corporate pressure caused the band to dislike the song and they refused to play it live for over 10 years.
More details about this song you can find in this video. I think it'll interesting for you to know better story of this song from musicians.
Song starts from simple noticeable riff which gives such atmosphere and then leads into the song. Through all song goes simple clear bass based on just four cords but it gives to song it's own emotions and soul. Lyrics in this song written by Marian are very great in my opinion. Also we should remember that Marian natively is German speaking man. And to write such lyrics about lovers in English is big achievement! Such a love story which has been told by person who looking from aside or remembering his big love. Also you can hear how high voice of Marian in this song. It is hard work to sing on such high level. But again it may be just a my opinion. Also as a before in the end just hear symphonic version of Sounds like a melody song.
