The minimalist relationship;Saving up instead of reckless spending.

Hi everyone, This is my first writing here and I am glad to be part of this community.
This journey of being a minimalist is a good one for me,I got it from my mum because she is a great minimalist.

There are countless experience I had with her,how she doesn't spend recklessly and she doesn't eat recklessly too.
There was a time she told me to get somethings from the supermarket, she told me the exact amount I must spend and I must not spend more than that,I actually spent more than that because the extras I bought was really important too but she scolded me when I got home.

There was also a time that I and my ex was always going out to buy something, always going to eatery or supermarket, my mum was not pleased with it,she said we are spending recklessly and that I should talk to him about it,that was the time to save up and not spend recklessly.

There are so many times that my mum would save up instead of buying things, there was a time I needed money urgently and my mum was to buy a cloth for the church anniversary,I told her to buy it with the money but my mum said no,that mine was more urgent and she gave me the money, all I know is that my mom knows how to spend wisely and I am also exhibiting that same habit on my own.

So I have this new roommate that spends recklessly over everything, when she first moved in I didn't know she is like that until I got to know her well, she would buy different things, either she needs it or not while me on the other hand just spend only on things I need,I just know how to spend my money and not waste it.

I'm a type of person that doesn't cook with anyone,I buy my foodstuffs by myself and I cook on my own, even with the previous roommates I have had,it wasn't a problem,we cooked separately but since I had this my new roommate I decided to give it a try because I thought I could handle it,so last month we contributed money together to buy foodstuffs but to my greatest surprise the food finished before we got to the middle of the month,I didn't even eat much,we bought a bottle of vegetable oil and the next day she was already saying that we should buy another one,I was surprised because I was wondering why we needed another one again, she just wants to spend double over things, and she would want to pull me along,I didn't bulge at all because I was tired of spending recklessly,if it was my foodstuff it would have lasted me till ending or closer to ending of the month.

I had to tell her nicely that we should cook separately,we should buy our foodstuffs separately because it's affecting my spending, she didn't really like the idea but I had no other option than to do that because I can't use all my money to feed and not do anything tangible with it.

I think most times it is difficult living with people who have a different lifestyle from you. They would even find it difficult to understand your way of life and mistake your minimalism for being stingy.

Yes...you are very right,it's easier to work together with people that has the same personality as you.
Thank you so much 🥰

You’re welcome ☺️

Knowing how to spend is very important; I'm also the type that limits my spending when the time comes; I don't just spend on anything without proper thinking; not everything that arises is important.

Thank you
