No Perfect Beginnings, Just Intentional Steps

If anyone told me that I’d truly take content creation seriously, with the little that I have, I’d tell them to stop telling a lie. This applied to both creative writing and video content creation.

There was a time in my life when I was drowning in “too much.” Too much at hand, too many ideas with no implementation, and far too little peace. I remember I’d tell myself that “I can do this but not now, I’m not ready just yet.” I knew it was something that I wanted to do but I thought it’s just not the right time.

Maybe the beginning of a new year, or kickstart at the very first day of a new month or even on a Monday or as early as 8am to make it official. I also thought I should wait till I get myself an iPhone, a digital camera, tripod stand, a led light and list can go on and on.

One of the most profound lessons I’ve learned through minimalism is Living intentionally. I needed to let go of all the excuses. I don’t have to wait for the perfect beginning, I don’t have to wait till I have it all figured out, I just needed to start and grow along.

At first, minimalism felt like a big task, organizing my life and making big decisions even when I’m not so ready - or so I thought. But over time, I realized it was really about living in alignment with my purpose. It was about making deliberate choices and focusing on what truly mattered to me.

So, I stopped waiting on calendar and physical resources and just began, taking one intentional step at a time. I started my content creation journey with my infinix S5 lite, it’s an old model plus the camera wasn’t clear again and I was always having storage issues.

I didn’t even have money to take courses and masterclasses on content creation, there was no form of lighting - ring light, led lights, soft boxes or track light - all I knew was my love for making videos, editing it my way and sharing values to others. I continued to use that phone to post videos on Instagram and Facebook and I didn’t get discouraged even when the engagement was very low.

For me, “less is more” became my mantra for intentional living. Not less in the sense of having low quality gadget but less in the sense that I do not have those things requires and I could still seemlessly pass my valuable information to the audience.

Minimalism reminded to focus only on what added value to my life, what value I bring to the table and then let go of the rest. I stopped chasing a perfect beginning. Just taking one small step towards a more fulfilling life.

Even in other spheres of my life, I stopped associating time, possessions, and even opportunities with beginnings. I embraced the idea that every moment is worthy enough to start over, whether it’s 3pm, 24th of a month, the last month of the year, less gadgets, or less equipment. The act of starting is more important than the timing.

I used to improvise a tripod stand with a stack and layers of my huge medical books and my window frame to strategically stand my phone. Before I got a ringlight, I waited for sunlight to shoot videos during the day and bright lamps to shoot at night. This idea of intentional living with the mantra “less is more” have helped me to also kickstart my business amid fear and delusion.

The beauty of intentional living is that it’s a practice, not a destination. It’s about deciding, moment by moment, what matters most and aligning my actions to reflect just that. And there’s another thing I learned from minimalism, when I remove the pressure of a perfect start, I felt a sense of freedom and just start authentically. Doing it my way! Very raw, very unique to me.

Today, my life is guided by this principle. I no longer wait for perfect beginnings. I no longer carry the weight of having “too much and not starting.” By embracing the mindset of intentional living, I’ve found clarity, peace, and the courage to create a life rooted in my purpose.

Minimalism, to me, isn’t about the things you give up or the ideas you have but about what you gain by starting where you are, one step at a time to a free and fulfilling life.

Thank you for your kind response. I’ve gone through the community rules already, is there a specific rule I violated?

Awww I was just saying go girl! while reading. You deciding to do things your way is very unique in the first place and taking your time to do it step by step to me even perfection.✨

Aww thank you so much 😊

You’re welcome

Reminds me of when I was using Infinix Hot 9 play, a 2GB ram phone and I saw pepper 😅. But even at that, I knew how to hype my phone remained satisfied or let me say, contended until I moved on to a better phone.
Life Is actually easy if we take it gradually and not the 'do or die" affair

Yes you’re right
We should just live in the moment and take it one step at a time.
